Why do meele AD carries work in Dota but not here?

Why are meele AD carries often regarded as trash tier? Fiora is my favorite champion and I normally do well with her. I also played Dota All-stars a lot before moving to LoL, and there, meele AD carries would simply destroy everything.

The mechanics of LOL are not so diferent. Why do meele AD carries suck?

Because in dota they have an item that gives you magic immunity for 5ish seconds, and their skills are stronger to compensate for their lack of range.
In league, you have no magic immunity, and in order to get close enough to do damage as a melee adc you need a crap ton of resists or health, when you should be focusing on damage.

Anyone that says otherwise is just a mindless basher of dota who has never played.

Riot wants ranged carrys to work, and dota doesnt. Very simple.

errrr Dota2 has ranged carries. It is true that they aren't as popular as melees, but they are certainly there. IIRC, Morphling was a ranged carry who was very popular not terribly long ago due to having godly escapes among other things.

BKB is the main reason, as well as attributes and the fact that very few skills have any additional damage scaling beyond the basic level.
