How viable would a Hybrid Thresh be?

After purchasing Thresh yesterday, I've grown to love the little bastard, and he is quickly replacing Sona as my favorite support character. However, I've noticed that after I get full CD reduction, aura items don't seem to benefit the team that greatly. I'm also noticing that I'm getting a decent amount of kills during team fights (not that I'm trying, it just seems that I kill them randomly with an idle auto attack.

Now, barring buying items with AP, as I don't know the conversion of AP for Thresh, would for the last couple of items be better spent in AP/ADC, or would it still just be better to get buff items. I do recognize that the aura's are beneficial, but I really haven't been in any battles where I'm going, "Phew, glad I had that 10% armor", etc.
Come one, come all! Its time for The Phantom Cabaret!
