Except, that wasn't the grammatical mistake that he made. "Except your dumb wits isn't a shred item" is one sentence, not two. It's talking about your dumb item, not you (general) being dumb. If you don't read it as two sentences (which you should not) then it is perfectly fine. "It gives mres. It's Malady that's the mres shred." would be the rest of the sentence.
