There's a few things I want to know before I reach level 20.

Something tells me I'm gonna have to get more serious about learning the intricacies of this game if I'm going to play this game past level 20, thus I figure I should ask these things now. Problem is, it's difficult to know what it is I don't know, thus any bit of advice can help, but I do have some specific questions.

First off, I really have no idea when, as a team, Dragon and Baron should be targetted, or when your team is ready to take them on. My understanding of Baron is that it's best done when you want to break through a team turtling their base, though of course if the enemy goes after Baron, you don't have much choice but to try and either scare them off or steal it as a team. Dragon, on the other hand, is something of a mystery to me. It seems like something you might take in your laning phase, but at the same time it seems an easy way to lose your lane if you go after it. I also have no idea what the rule of thumb is of average level when facing these monsters.

Second off is jungle buffs. From my understanding, Red is typically most useful on the jungler, while Blue is often most useful on mid. Only thing is, I'm not sure when mid should be taking Blue. I'm also not sure how much health/mana you should have after you take these if you want to go right back into lane (especially to gank), and when/if you should recall.

Third is more a champions recommendation. I seem to naturally gravitate towards AP champions, for some reason. I don't mind if a champ isn't great at killing an enemy, so long as they can CC, harass, and generally keep themselves alive. I do like ranged, but so long as there's range in their kit, I don't mind melee. Given that, these are the champs I own:

I haven't played Taric since his rework, but he used to be my go-to. My go-to for mid, and just in general, is Morgana. I wasn't crazy about Jarvan, since something about his kit just didn't "click" with me. Loving free week Lulu, definitely buying her (my second rune page can wait). Cho'Gath and Malphite are who I'm trying out for top, and while I like their kits, I don't seem to do all that well with them.

Without buying more champions, what does this board recommend I learn?

Also, I figure, if there's anything else I should know now that I have the experience under my belt to understand what it is you're talking about, more general tips would always be nice.

My advice is to relax, dude, holy crap. Even at level 20 you're going to find people who don't understand that stuff, so take your time getting a feel for it.

You must've bought the bundles!

As for Dragon, the best time to take it is whenever you're at an advantage to do so without disrupting anything else.

Generally when your lanes are pushed, you just pulled off a successful gank on bot lane, you have vision etc.

It all generally comes down to map awareness.

Eh, I figure if no one teaches me these things, I'll end up just sticking with pre-20 habits far longer than I should. Perhaps I'm rushing, but it'd be nice to get to a level where I'm not a total detriment when I play an inhouse or something.

1. You want to go for Baron either when you have wiped at least 2 or 3 members of the enemy team or when you want to force a team fight.

2. You want to give the mid lane blue buff when it spawns for the second time. Unless they're feeding or you need it more.

3. I recommend that you try Kassadin. I see that you own him, and TBH he's kind of insane. He pretty much never dies and he's fairly simple to use. I remember I bought him when I was around your level and I caught on to him within 10 games. He's pretty godlike. Also you might want to try Pantheon. He's not AP, but he has a stun and he's really strong in the early to mid game phases. Not to mention he stomps noobs hard.

Is there a general rule of thumb for level, though? I would think going after it early would be suicide.

He gains health every minute, so he is at his weakest when he spawns at 15 minutes, however it is very rare for a baron to go down before the 25 minute mark when the big items are starting to come out from everyone. If you have two people with wriggles or % health damage ( vayne) you can down it easily and unexpectedly if you wipe out the other teams vision before you engage baron.

My advice would be to watch the LCS and other events and take note of when a team either gives away a buff or goes for baron/dragon.
