And yet he still just completely dominated without any items whatsoever.

So in other words, every pro team needs to use the following strategy:

BAN THRESH. AT ALL COSTS.

You don't need items to be useful and make plays as support. This is nothing new. Besides having vision everywhere with Nidalee on your team is a major advantage, those spears gonna land far more frequently.

I dare you to try and make any impact on a game whatsoever by building the exact same thing on an Alistar or Taric.

Haha. You're funny. Again, you don't need major items to make plays and be useful as the support. Aura items are nice, but not a necessity as support. If you really want them on your team your jungler/top can split the items between them.

I spam wards whenever I play support anyways, vision > gear.

As any support other than Thresh, you have two choices to balance:
1. Give your team tons of vision, or
2. Have tanky aura items so you can apply lots of CC.

Muffinqt did both. Other supports can't do both.

But they will also die instantly in the process without items, unlike Thresh.

Nope. Because Zyra and Lulu doesn't have to be in the middle of everyone to use their CCs and who the hell is gonna focus the supports in a fight? Leona is pretty beefy thanks to her W.

The "LOL theyre not gonna focus the support noobz" argument is so stupid. Supports die a lot in pro games. If someone is out of position, they are going to get smashed. If a Lulu with only Ruby Sightstone and Boots gets even tickled, she's going to get massacred. Thresh, on the other hand, gets away with it. Zyra is one of the rare instance that can do it, but even so, Zyra doesn't have the ridiculous lantern for making plays.

What you're mentioning is when they catch the support out of position and they isolate themselves from their team, that's an entirely different thing than actually focusing down the support as the first target in the beginning of a teamfight. Which I've never seen happen, because you're gonna get punished for it.

Just like no one was focusing Thresh most of the time in those fights.
