I don't think either are overpowered and people always talk about thresh hook. Half the time thresh lands a hook, it's wasted cause it doesn't drag them far enough for anyone can follow up on it, plus it disables threash also.
Even in these LCS games, he'll land a hook late game but no one can follow up on it, even if you get the ADC sometimes.. With blitz, all pulls can be followed up on.
So what's in threash kit that makes him a better FoTM pick over blitz? I don't see it.

lantern is one of the best escape tools (or even initiation in some cases) in the game. thresh hook + aoe knock back + the best slow in the game is also nothing to laugh at. the box is also amazing disengage / escape.

Thresh provides more utility. Where Blitz provides a harder cc.
Thresh has his lantern which sets up ganks, saves team mates, and provides a shield. His passive also allows him to get pretty beefy. And while his Q doesnt pull the enemy as far as blitz it does give you more options when you land it. By dashing to the enemy you can do a hard engage. Q>E>R or whatever works best at the time.
Blitz has his hard grab. If he lands it the enemy will probably die due to being able to follow it up with a knock up and silence.
All in all I believe blitz is a stronger pick in solo queue but thresh is stronger with a more coordinated team.
