Beginner here, played some and have questions.

Bought Garen to start off with since he seemed easy to play.

I mainly focus on being items with HP regen, armor and magic resist.

However, I seem to be running into the issue in 3X3 where I'm always fighting two champions and making little headway, retreating often.

Meanwhile the other lanes get to push forward fine and make progress. Is this really how its supposed to be? I've played tanky as it seems to happen every game and I'm just stalling for the most part.

That is a tank.

Takes lots of hits so allies can kill them in the back.

If you want to do some more damage with Garen..Sunfire cape.

And remember: Spin to Win.

Have you ever played a tank in a game before?

Being ganged up on happens a lot regardless of the game mode. It's just an efficient tactic to move in groups.

Slows down their experience gain, thou, so you can try to outfarm them. Also, the whole point if being tanky is to force the fight to stall. You're not meant to be aggressive.

No need for the typical Lol snipe please that I've heard oh so much about. I've played tanks in Tera, Gw2 and WoW.

I'm literally only around ten games in and I seem to be trying to hold back two champions and making little headway, granted I'm not dying often but I'm asking if this is the way things are supposed to be.

I've not had this answered yet at all.

I'm not talking about how 2 tank or anything as far as that goes. I'm asking if someone keeping two champs busy while the others push is the norm in 3X3, becaue I'll go to 5X5 if its different.

Yes, yes, yes, YES.

That is the purpose of a Tank, especially in a 3v3.

Garen is a tank character...building him anything else is a bad idea.

If you don't want to be a tank character....you are going to want to pick another champ other than Garen.

If you want someone who does a lot of damage but is manaless like Garen...I suggest Riven.

It would be helpful if you said that in the first place

You are playing one of the tankiest characters in LoL and building pure tank. Unless you build entirely big AD items (Black Cleaver, Bloodthirster, etc.), pretty much all of Garen's damage is going to be in his R, meaning if you don't have someone else there to weaken your opponents, you simply won't be able to do enough damage to kill anyone. But if you do build that direction, once you get into teamfights, you'll be pretty worthless, as you'll be pretty squishy.

Sounds like you are building him right, but wanting him to be an unkillable instagib machine. LoL doesn't do that unless your opponents play horribly and let you get 2k+ gold ahead. If you want to be tough to kill and deal a lot of damage, you'll only be half-arsed at both.
