Why isn't Nami played more?

Either as AP or support.

She has such awesome abilities.

AP would be a terrible idea.

And she is not as specialized as supports like Lulu, thresh, and taric.

Why terrible?

dat Q is lulz

And the W is pretty good both for sustain and doing damage

And E is "I kite you now bb"

Ult is just ridiculously good.

Q isn't reliable.

It's smaller than chogath Q, has no slow and a longer cast time (with smaller range)

W is pretty good tbh

E is awful - it's a skill you level up because it's there (reminds me of skarner E actually)

Ult is awesome though

Lemme copy / paste my reply from the last Nami topic a few days ago...

Nami is pretty good... IF you can land her skillshots. It's pretty much what makes other supports outclass her. Taric, for example, simply needs to get in range, and the enemy ADC is stunned and ready for the kill. Nami needs to aim her skillshot, taking into account enemy movement, and hoping they dont have the reflexes to dodge it during its travel time. Her heal is also pretty weak when compared to Taric, Alistar, or Soraka's heals. The damage boost with added slow is nice, but its only for 3 shots, whereas Janna's shield blocks damage and boosts damage for more attacks AND for AD based skills.

Also her tidal wave is a little bit on the slow and easy-to-dodge side, by simply listing lazily to the left. It's best used in the jungle, where it's nice and tight, or when someone else has them pinned down with an AoE CC, but otherwise...

So yeah. She's good. She's by no means a bad support at all. She's just heavily reliant on landing those skillshots, which makes her outclassed by those easier to play easier to win supports. It also makes her fairly weak in lane. Her laning is quite poor compared to other supports, unless you have someone else who has a reliable stun along with you so you can guarantee the bubble hit, but that's pretty much classified as a kill lane, then, and Leona does better in kill lanes...

If you do pick her up and play her, though, I highly suggest 40% CDR as soon as you can, plus some mana sustain of some sort. Grail is good for this, if you can somehow get the gold for it along with all the wards and such you'll be getting as the support. Her Q is easily the strongest aspect of her, being able to stun several people in one shot if it lands, and reducing its cooldown (along with the heal, the damage boost, and the tidal wave) is very important if you want to be useful in team fights, which is where she starts to shine the most.

I should add that since Dominion technically skips the Laning phase, Nami's actually pretty decent there. Provided that you can, as I've said in the quote, land her skillshots correctly.

She's a great support. Horrible AP, though.

I don't know why more people don't play Nami, honestly. :(
Her stun is awesome. She has an awesome way to add damage to her carry. And if you have trouble landing her Q, notice that her E allows her carry to slow on attack allowing her to follow up with her stun or forcing the opponent to flash to evade it or juke it in a direction that isn't that good to go into.

Her ult is no Crescendo but it works anyway.

Her Q is kinda hard to land. I played both Cho'Gath and her, and her Q just simply feels more difficult to hit people with than Cho'Gath.
Her W is decent, especially in a team-fight.
Her E is sort of lacking. It'd be great if the duration is a bit longer or the effect stronger.
Her ultimate actually isn't that bad and is great as a counter-initiation.

The reward for landing her skill shot is not worth her incredible squishyness. You could play Cho support and do much better. Q is easier to land, it's much easier to be tanky due to ult and you can nuke, and W does good damage and a 3 second silence. If they buff her Q travel time or radius, she'll be fine.
