Where does a newb start?

#1acangialPosted 4/10/2013 9:54:52 AM
I am new to PC gaming. I see tons of stuff out there about LoL help, but there is nothing I found that is any good from a purely instructional standpoint.

Do I just go through all the tutorials in the game and play with bots for awhile or can someone recommend a site to learn how to actually play before I dive in?

Thanks.

Do a few bot games to learn how things work. Look up guides if you want, for your preferred champion, to determine recommended items. Start doing PvP games soon as you can, otherwise you'll likely gain bad habits.

But not too many. Remember, unless you join a higher-ranked friend, you play with newbies when you're a newbie. Try maybe 3-5 bot games to get a handle on how the game works, then go to PvP. If you play bots up until you're like, Level 15 (Summoner Rank, not in-match level), you'll be at a serious disadvantage when you go to PvP.

Get good at last hitting. Don't do all the work of killing minions in lane, wait until you can kill them in one hit so you get the gold for them.

Keep an eye on your mini map. Watch where the enemy team is.

Don't get yourself killed. Don't try to take on more than one person by yourself. If you 1 vs 1 someone and they kill you, they'll do it again the next time too.

Just remember these important things:

A kill isn't worth a death unless the enemy is fed.

Last hitting minions is how you play the game. You win by getting enough money to over power your opponents. Unless you are support. Then you stand around and get good positioning and assist your team based on who your support is.

Seriously, last hit minions. That means dealing the death blow to them. A 20 minion kill difference is a lot of gold.

Did I mention you should last hit minions? Yeah. Do that.

Find champions you like for /each/ role, but don't expect to Jungle until you're at least level 20. It's important to be flexible because a lot of people refuse to be.

Remember build orders and skill orders. But don't always feel like you need to stick to a particular build. Some situations require different items.

Learn more than just your champion's abilities. Learn what the enemy skills do. You don't want to try to turret dive somebody with a stun if they haven't used it because they might kill you instead and then you just look stupid.

Don't bother to fill out you runes page till your summoner level 20 and thus unlock the tier 3 runes. tiers 1 and 2 are simply a waste of IP.

And if someone tells you can can't press D to dance don't it just wastes a summoner spell. The emotes are ctrl 1, 2, 3, or 4.
