Why exactly is it a bad idea to be able to que up for roles?

I'm almost scared of playing ranked sometimes because everybody thinks call order matters.

Because call order shouldn't matter. Also because it would send queue times through the roof, especially in higher leagues where there are fewer people to begin with.

Well for starters, there's a number of odd laning choices, such as support Leblanc, AD Sona and counter bruiser bruiser Lux, that aren't really obvious choices at all yet can still work quite well. Because of this you can't really limit any champions to a specific role, meaning you can't just queue Support and be forced to take one of the generic supports like Soraka, Taric or Janna. You have to have access to all champions. Additionally, because items aren't limited to specific roles, you have to have access to all items.

What this means is that there's no stopping someone queuing for Support for shorter queue times, then proceeding to go top lane Renekton or something.

Think of an MMO if you've ever played one, and think of groups looking for healers and tanks. That's what would happen here. Everyone goes in looking to do mid, adc, or top. Game frequency drops drastically because no one chooses support.

I suppose I should probably update this signature soon.

Wow, that's actually a really good point. Didn't think of that. It's just annoying how people beg for top or mid when they're first pick and ***** about their teammates when they start feeding.
