I can never get a decent amount of damage out with her and the other mid ends up crapping on me as a result. Casting Q either pushes lane because they sit in minions or misses because they can just get out of the cast zone before it lands. I don't know the secret to keeping her mana bar filled because she feels like she requires spamming but goes oom quickly. If I try to compensate for mana too hard then I end up having no damage. i don't usually have this problem with mids.
The problem isn't that I don't know how to lead with Q because honestly I'm great at landing Kog'Maw ults and that has an element of advance warning. it's worse that I can't practice because I've run into a lot of Morganas in normals where I tried to practice her but Black Shield is just a slap in the face for Q.
Honestly though the worst part is her ult because I never know who to use it on because I'm trying to get maximum damage output by having all the balls out at once but some champs it just tickles and does jack **** for some reason.

Push lane, gank sidelanes, there, solved your Q pushing lanes problems.
For mana, chalice its a really, REALLY good item.

Q things. R things. Profit.
Disregard Choices, Acquire Swain Garen's mai waifu
Lead the Q (most people instinctively run toward their turret when they see a skillshot coming that's not in a line) to poke them down to about half, then Q E W R for an easy kill, don't wave-clear with Q and W unless there's purpose behind it, like roaming, going to your blue, etc. or you'll go oom extremely fast. Build chalice for early mana regen, and eventually into unholy grail, second item is DFG for easy squishy kills with Q E W Q R. In teamfights I nuke someone down with DFG if they get close enough, then just spam Q and W from the back.
That's how I play her and I always seem to do well...but I'm Silver II, so consider that if you choose to listen to me.
You can Combo Q-> E without even waiting for the ball to technically drop. If you smart cast them with good timing you will have a much easier time landing it.
Use smart casting if you're not already. Syndra is one of the few champs who absolutely requires it to do anything.
Build an early Tear or Chalice before going to your big damage items. She has enough sustainable damage early on to not really need damage items right off the bat.
Practice makes perfect on leading with her abilities. Can't really advise you on that.
Don't worry about making someone go 100-0 - Syndra can do that sometimes, but you should focus on whittling them down to about 40 or 50% health before ulting them.
Likewise, don't worry about getting 4 spheres out before ulting. Build CDR, of course, and 2 or 3 spheres should be decent enough to ult with.
If you're pushing the wave, that's not necessarily a bad thing unless your opponent is freezing the wave at their tower. But if that happens, feel free to leave the lane to gank or farm wraiths, because they're gonna be preoccupied for at least a few precious seconds. If you ward properly, you even have the range to harass your opponent near their tower, which is great.
