Pros aren't the best at maths reflected in their weak item builds

Kog'maw build

Bork
IE
Last whisper... REALLY LAST WHISPER?

I have tested the numbers, it doesn't matter HOW MUCH armor or MR the enemy has, Phantom dancer will ALWAYS do more damage on a kog'maw than last whisper both in RAW damage and GOLD EFFICIENCY damage.

You might think "enemy has high armour why doesnt last whisper do more damage than phantom dancer?". It's quite simple, Phantom dancer gives Crit chance that boosts the damage from IE considerably, and more importantly 50% attack speed which not only boosts kog's physical damage but his %max hp damage.

Even if the enemy tank has 250 armor and 200 MR, a phantom dancer STILL wins as the third item. And the less resistances the enemy has, the harder phantom dancer kills last whisper.

The only reason I think pros build last whisper third is because A) they do the same thing on all ADCs, which is fine for someone like ashe or graves who dont do on-hit magic damage but not for kog'maw B) they haven't looked at the numbers behind their item builds for each particular ADC (yes kog maw benefits more from atk speed and crit chance than armor pen).

But the problem with this reasoning is that pros are smart enough to build AD on graves/mf because of their high AD scaling skills.

The maths takes a long time. It's not a simple 1+1 = 2. It takes a long time to calculate. You have to factor in your current level to get your stats from skills, base stats etc then masteries, runes, enemy max hp, enemy current hp, enemy armor, enemy mr.
You can do it yourself if you want. It's definitely too much work to put in a gamefaqs post.

You can't just say that.

What's the situation.

What if the enemy tank had 200 armor and MA. PD isn't going to help you when you aren't chasing someone and the tank's armor prevents your crits from hurting.

I just ran the numbers and the LW is more efficient per gold when the targets have more than ~120 armor, if you do not include the BOTRK active.

If you do include the active, then it is more efficient at 60 or so armor.

These numbers are a bit rough but they should be vaguely in the right ballpark.

A target with 1 armor item will exceed the 120 armor point by lategame. All targets will exceed the 60 armor point.

Actually that's the point im making. If the enemy tank has 200 armor and 200 MR, PD STILL outdamages Last whisper on kog. Look at koreans, they understand the maths. They get statikk shiv on kog after bork. Then they get IE/LW. But the second attack speed item scales kog's damage way harder than IE+LW.

How often is a team going to let a kog sit in the back and rightclick for the full 8 seconds of his W
