Like I said in the topic, I never played LoL. I'm looking for something to play to keep me busy for a while, but I'm a little apprehensive because I know that this game is extremely competitive. Is it too late to jump in and start now? If not, any tips or advice for someone completely new to the game?

It's never too late to start playing this.

For a brand new player, I would advise you to go to solomid.com, mobafire.com, or even lolking.com and look up champion guides for whoever you think you want to play. Even if you don't follow their builds to the letter, you can get a better idea of how to itemize for champions.

Aside from that, the only advice I can give right off the bat is this: Playing safe will get you more wins than taking risks. Enemy champion sitting there with 40% health under his turret while you've 70%? Dive or not dive? DO NOT DIVE, unless your jungler comes so one of you can tank the turret.

Yea, you will learn a lot faster if you take risks because you'll learn your limits.

Just jump into it and play, and don't waste your time on bots.
I actually prefer the purple stuff

Remember that while the goal of the game may be to take down turrets and eventually destroy the nexus, you get there by being stronger. The key is gold differential. Out farming the other guy and taking objective like dragon is usually more important than rushing down towers.

Also, ward.
