I come from Dota 2 Board in Peace with questions!

Hi all, I've been playing Dota 2 for a while after I decided not to play league. What things do you guys like in League that's not in Dota? The other way around? I also have a couple questions, what are AD carries, Assassins, etc? Are there wards, counterwarding? Is there pulling? How do the games compare to those who have played both? I'm just wondering, don't mean to start an all out war. Thanks again.

No pulling. Far too many wards.

The best way to describe the differences is that League is more about hair trigger decisions and mechanical execution, while Dota is about tactical awareness and precise execution.

AD carries are agi carries, except they're all ranged and have varying attack range and strengths in their kits. Assassins are things like TA or Storm where they zip in and go kill your carry.

There are wards and counterwards. Unlike in dota, counterwards also reveal the area. There are also no limits to how many you can buy.

No pulling/stacking. The jungle works differently. The camps don't spawn every minute, they spawn a set amount of time after they're dead.

Dota is the better game but less popular.

There are no trilanes no pulling and no smokes. Sentry wards give vision as well as just true sight. There are unlimited wards but you can only hold 5 per item slot.

Probably the best 2 things I prefer about League to Dota are the fact you B instead of use courier and the whole balance situation. But those are just personal stuffs, ignore them.

Dota 2 does a lot of things better- for one the map is 100000000000x better designed, and I actually prefer last hitting and overall gold-flow in Dota. This is more because it's had more time to be refined as such, but it's still preference even here.

AD carries- the best I can describe these are Sniper and Drow Ranger but with variations.

Assassins- Nyx and NP are close to an assassin. Take out important targets in fights.

AP carries- The closest I can come to a true APC in dota is Jakiro. Just think of him and you get the idea.

Supports- CM and Witch Doc are good examples of supports- team based with tons of warding.

Junglers- Easier to jungle here than dota. Many many many champs can jungle. I would say the closest to a jungler in LoL for dota is Enigma- gank, farm and have good teamfights, though all junglers here have different purposes and vastly different styles.

Wards: There are unlimited instead of unlimited. There are "pink" wards that function as counter wards, in addition to what basically is a gem, the oracles.

Pulling: Nope.

I've played both, and they have distinctly different feels to them with different communities. Personally, I prefer League because I find it more relaxing- less punishment for stupid mistakes and the like. It's really personal preference- if you like DotA, chances are you'll stay there because you're used to it and you find it more fun.

Anyways, hope this helps.

I played some Dota back in WC3 and it was great. Played Ogre Magi a lot and he's kinda similar to Annie I guess? My problem wasn't necessarily with the game back then but the community. Virtually impossible to learn w/out friends. That dislike just continued onwards and I stayed away from Dota 2. More open minded about it now though and think at its core it's better.

Main reason I don't play it now is I'm too used to League. Dota feels pretty clunky after coming from league.

There's also no turn rate no denying and you don't lose gold when you die.

stacking pulling and denial is kinda lame, and makes the game (dota2) less about building characters, movement and strategy, and more about simply a resource intensive grief game. laaaaame
