is it odd that this game auto detects me to high settings?

I'm a bit confused, I have a 6950 and a very good processor, memory, etc., and I can play a lot of games on Ultra, but this seems to be an exception? Can I still try it out on the highest settings? Or would I just be better at high?

what exactly DOES auto detect look at?

If you really can play a lot of games on Ultra fine, then this game will be no exception. Even for me it ran way better than expected. Yeah, there's a few choppy framerates, mostly when looking at the entire city in a complex lighting, but it's still very manageable, and would only really be detrimental if the game were a first person shooter. Game runs very smooth 85% of the time though.

I've got an ATI 6950 as well, with 4GB RAM and an old 2.6ghz Quad Core processor, running the game at highest settings save for Anti Alias, which is at 4x, instead of 8x.

Don't worry, this game is very well ported to the PC and is very stable, graphics wise. It's not like GTAIV, which has a beefy system requirement. And it's certainly not like Saint's Row 2, which pretty much has a higher requirement than this game.

yes it is.

im using a GT650m and i7 3610QM (mobile card and processor) and get directed to Ultra at 720p. ive changed it to custom @1366x768, with 8x AF instead of 16x, but everything else is on high. i haven't dropped below 30 FPS yet.

just set it to Ultra manually, you should be fine :)
