Besides some false sense of accomplishment? Like fighting a hidden boss or unlocking some unique items/weapons/extras?

There are no unlocks for Ys Seven like Time Attack or Boss Rush. There were in other Ys games.

I believe Nightmare is the highest for this game, but others have Inferno.

I wouldn't say it's a false sense of accomplishment seeing as how Nightmare mode in this game is still easy relative to other games in the series thanks to the party system. There are no tangible benefits, no, but the combat feels more rewarding on at least Hard because easy is hard to fail on with three characters and items. Other Ys games are unforgiving. Felghana is hard on Normal mode.
Go to Gamestop, buy a Steam card, and use it to purchase Ys Origin. You won't be disappointed.

Though if you try to play this game felghana style (with no healing items) it can reach it's levels of hardness on certain bosses.

But no, Ys games aren't those types of games generally. You replay them on harder difficulties because you enjoy the game that much, otherwise you don't hah.

You get nothing for beating the game even on the highest difficulty. As the other guy said, it's really just for the fun of it.

As for me, I had TONS of fun with Nightmare.
Not changing this sig until I get over Gungnir's troll ending.

Might try nightmare when I'm done with it, but I need to be more competent with the guarding system.

You really don't need it quite honestly. Though it will make life easier.

I wouldn't say it's a false sense of accomplishment, it's nice to play through the same game with added difficulty. I don't do it with all games, but it's super fun to challenge yourself with Ys games.
