U.S. WWII build: .45 SMG (based on Thompson), This Machine (M1 Garand), and the .45 pistol or ALSiD (both are based on the 1911), Thump Thump (based on real WWII launcher) and frag grenades with apparel that has a U.S. military theme. Chance's Knife works as a backup. Grunt, Commando etc... for perks.
Gangster build: Vance's SMG, Sleepytyme, silenced 22 or 9mm, Maria, brass knuckles, straight razor etc.... Invest in lockpicking and stealth. Benny's Suit or any other gangster apparel to complete the look. Use drugs to offset lack of armor.
While not unorthodox, two of my favorite characters are the typical cowboy (revolvers, bowie knife, lever action, cowboy perk, duster etc...) and an all-explosive "boomer" build. If you have GRA, the Fat Man is much more usable (due to the new ammo types). I also love Thump Thump and Red Glare as primary weapons.
If you don't believe in myths, fairy tales, ghosts, and zombie resurrections, and are 100% proud of this, put this in your sig.
this includes (which can easily be tweaked to whatever your personal tastes are) a strict 80-100 lb max weight limit, NO home base, hardcore mode, realistic gear.
you have to survive on what you can carry. live off the land. you have to think about every encounter you have, as you are very limited in this build. scavenging becomes WAY more realistic. you cant just take everything anymore. you really have to pick and choose.
it is challenge build for sure, but if you enjoy the post apoc survival aspect of the game, then its a cool build.
another favorite of mine that i did was a playthrough as Benny.
rush to the strip straight away top get maria and his suit, and go from there doing everything you think benny would have done had the courier not messed up his plans. there is definitely some dialogue tat breaks the immersion for this, but still it is a lot of fun
Crazy? Crazy with low prices on Wind Brahmin. You buy one!!
Can pretty much work with any potential build, but something I like doing is starting my characters off as just some random bum in Freeside, drastically reducing the amount of caps you're capable of getting, then trying to work my way onto the Strip.
Start out as just some dirty knife robber, but when you finally manage to get into the Strip you change into some high-flying casino goer.
Pretty fun, imo.
Also, what can really make it fun is really reducing the amount of damage needed to kill both you and anyone else. Makes robberies more intense, and Freeside actually becomes a really dangerous place to stay, with thugs trying to shiv you at every turn.
