Explain something to me - why are people always concerned with FPS past what the human eye can perceive?

Some people have been known to see past 60 frames per second. That being said, those same people probably would also find the jumping framerate to be annoying. So to answer your question, its probably to compensate for something :-P

Ah if your just running a test, turn off vsync and force off vsync in your nvidia control panel (or catalyst drivers if they have the option).

Because the higher the FPS the smoother/more responsive the game looks and feels. It doesn't matter how many frames per second that your eyes can perceive because 1) everybody is different and 2) the frames are not actually in sync with your eyes.

Set your FPS to FOURTY and make yourself feel like a superhuman. ITS NOT LIKE YOU CAN SEE MORE THAN THIRTY FIVE ANYWAYS

The human eye does not see in FPS, it perceives changes in the environment.

Some pilots are able to notice one black frame every 200 frames of white (at 200fps)

lol @ "you can't see past 60"

But tc, if your monitor is only 60 Hz, you won't notice a difference. If you had a 120 Hz monitor, maybe you would.
