Any mods which add more civilian NPCs throughout New Vegas?

I did see "Populate New Vegas" (and "REpopulate) on nexus but they seem abandoned and outdated. Also the comments for them seem to indicate them having a lot of problems. Just curious if someone can recommend me another mod or tell me if this one still works well and achieves what it set out to do for them.

Depends probably on how they load and how many there are and where they are.

I tried to run the New Vegas Bounties ones and then the "World of Pain" mods along with all my other ones and one of the two made me crash about every 30-45 minutes when going in and out of doors/fast traveling/etc. I assume these don't add as many NPCs together as the one you talked bout.

WoP adds a bunch of new areas and some enemies I think. Bounties obviously has a bunch of bounties for you to kill.

I think if you run any of these you should minimize the other mods you have on and just run one at a time because these add too much to the world from what I can tell. Travelling makes them have to load too much. I suppose my load order might have been off too and that might have been the issue. I haven't really looked at a load order program yet so that might fix it. For the time being I turned those 2 mods off and haven't had any crashes since. It was definitely one or the other that caused the many crashes though.

Thanks for your reply, I am currently running project nevada, world of pain, warzones (adds tons of fighting npcs), NV skies, and various companion/weapon mods and played a few hours without any problems at all. I just installed new vegas a couple of days ago but i have already beaten it on console when it was released so I decided to jump straight into adding mods. I don't have a super computer or anything and it seems to run just fine even with 30+ npcs fighting on screen at the very same time.

I was actually just about to install "new vegas bounties" and "monster mod" to liven up the world but I'd really very much like to have more random neutral npcs wandering the wasteland to make the world feel more alive.

There's "Populated Casinos" that livens up the casinos (including the Atomic Wrangler) around the Vegas Strip quite well. It hasn't been updated for a long time, but it accomplishes what it says it does.

Another I enjoyed was "NPC Project" for a few different locations. Freeside, Bitter Springs, Aerotech Office Park, and 188 Trading Post all have more npcs added to them. The author says everything he did, so you can decide if it's worth giving a try. Personally I think it's great, especially the 188 Trading Post part. He put cut npcs with voice-acting back there which had nothing wrong with them.

Just keep in mind if you decide to use the Freeside project and Populated Casinos together, you'll need to apply the compability patch from the NPC Project. Same goes if you use Interior Lighting Overhaul (for Mick 'n Ralph's store) but it isn't up to date. Still will work though.

Also, the NPC Project for Freeside changes some npc faces, but it plays friendly with New Vegas Redesigned for me. I have NPC Project after it in the load order, if that accounts for anything.

Mine could be more of a problem with I didn't install most of those mods until I had played that file about 70 hours already too. Probably didn't install them in the right order or something. It's kind if finicky I suppose, or I just plain have way too many hours in already and should have started all those on a new file, which I plan to do next time.

I am running all the HUDs like DARN, flashlight, etc. Project Nevada, some weapon mods, Nevada Skies, Electrocity, and a few others I can't remember. I'm sure something in there doesn't jive right. I turned on the Bounties and the World of Pain both at the same time around 70-80 hours or so and it would just crash a lot so I turned them both off and it ran fine. I even turned my settings down from Ultra to like the middle and it still was the same.

@Ultimate_Noob - Yeah nice call I did see populated casinos in passing when i was first considering modding the game and kind of forgot i saw it, I will definitely look into it as it sounds like a great idea. Even if populated wasteland mod doesn't work at least the areas you mentioned will be populated as they should be, thanks for that input I feel I want to look into those mods right away!

@JimMorrison187 - I installed another dozen mods since I last posted here (some of them quite large such as monster mod) and after a total of six hours of roaming to the modded areas to test them I seem to have no problems. Sandstorms sometimes lag my game a little (Nevada skies) when there is a lot going on already but luckly they are easy to disable permanently. I am very meticulous in nature and I read all of the descriptions for each mod very closely to try to strike preemptively at any conflict problems. I also took a look at several load suggestions to see if there was a pattern of which mods should be loaded first and last though I think maybe I have just lucked out. I did start on a fresh save however so you are right maybe your many hours of playing that file could have affected it. Wish I had some more helpful insight for you but like i said I just started here myself. (By the way I find it interesting you put 187 in your user name, my ex-girlfriend who is a huge doors fan is convinced his woman murdered him).

Populated Casinos is bugged for me. Yes it does populate, but the instant you enter the room everyone gets up from their seat and they stand around like zombies.

I had used it earlier this year as well and it wasn't like that then, only now.

I have not tried it just yet but when I read the description it said something about there being problems if you try to load the mod while you are at the casino, did you try checking it out with like a new save or something?

LOL..yeah not many people get that's what that means. I don't believe it myself I just thought it was funny at the time. Jimi as in Hendrix and Morrison as in Jim were my favorites at the time I made this account so I tried to combine them. Then knowing they both died at 27 along with others like Joplin, I figured the 187 was a good touch.

As for the mods. I really think I just got a bit too lazy with my load orders and I would guess waiting too long to add them was an issue considering both those mods add things to areas I may have already tampered with, and been to. Making the mods have to compensate for a lot of things that had already happened, or the game having to do it. I think I will start fresh on my next game with them and see how it goes. I see the BOSS mod touted on a few of these to set a correct load order so I suspect that might help a little too.

Casinos were the place I loaded my mods at (not the same one) and the Ghommora in particular had a hell of a time with them. Adding mods while i was on the Strip was a stupid thing to do I think. Every time I went in/out the Courtyard door at that casino there was about a 50/50 chance my game would crash with my new mods on. o there definitely seems to be some sort of conflict there. Of course after I left that area it usually took only 4-5 location changes for my game to crash as well. Be it fast travel, or entering a new location like Nellis, McCarren, etc. Just too much going on I reckon.

I use rePopulated (dont use the other outdated broken one) and have no problems with it.
