When you first make it to the military guys in Pripyat and you go on the mission to get the gauss rifle, does it matter if everyone but me dies? Poor Captain Tarasov didn't make it, and he seemed important...sort of.

They all died for me as well and I was able to finish the game just fine. Im going back through it now though and im going to try to get him to survive but that dude with the gauss rifle does some major damage.

One time I managed to kill the monolith leader the second he became vurnerable (once he shoots the sniper) before the fight made any headway. Of course, I was standing in the middle of the yard, and I got destroyed moments later by everyone else.

I just redid it and the Captain and one other survived.

Not sure about this case, but I lost 3 of the 4 guys I went with through the underground tunnels to Pripyat. This came up in the ending of the game (each one individually), so maybe it makes a difference.

I just did a second playthrough and saved the captain and two others and it didnt seem to make a difference in the ending.

Those that survive will add to the people escorting you to the evacuation point at the end of the game.

Anyway it took a while, but eventually I just RP74'd the heck out of the adjacent building (after sniping the preacher of course)
