So, the last pokemon game I played was blue and after a decade or so of not even touching pokemon I stumbled upon that webcomic "Pokemon - Hard mode". After doing a bit of research I felt compelled to pick a game up and put it to the test via a blind playthrough. Unfortunately, pokemon seems to be a tad bit harder than I remember it DX I started playing and things were going well, I picked up a couple pokemon along the way (adhering to the first pokemon per route thingy) and leveled up a team of 5 to level 10 before engaging the first gym leader... Then things went catastrophically wrong. Beat all the trainers and Falkner's pidgey without a scratch... then his pidgeotto proceeds to wound my spearow. I bring him back and switch for another pokemon... but he brings that one down to less than half in one hit. Again and again I kept switching hoping he wouldn't take off half my pokemon's hp... but to no avail. At level 10 he can 2 shot all my pokemon, and I realized too late that he was too strong. With my entire team at half life, I reluctantly sent a martyr in hopes of finishing the pidgeotto off... except pidgeotto is fast. Too fast for all my pokemon. 1 by 1 he proceeded to eliminate them, sweeping my entire team before finishing off Sam (my chikoreeta), thus ending my Nuzlocke at the first gym. Now, normally I'd just say oh well and be done with it, but this was entirely "MY" fault for not leveling them properly and for being blind to the situation and not picking a martyr sooner. My entire team died because of my bad decision, and that quite frankly sucks hard. tl;dr: After not playing pokemon for years I picked it up to try the Nuzlocke challenge and got destroyed by the first gym leader.

Starting anew. And the ground rules are similar (albeit much more relaxed than other people's Nuzlocke's) RULES: 1: Fainted Pokemon are dead and in PC Box called Heaven. 2: Only 1 Pokemon per Route (first pokemon encountered only, even if accidently K'O'ed) 3: No X item's (apparently they're too strong? Never used them anyways) ----------------------- But yeah, this will be considered a blind play to everything after the first gym, will update whenever possible.
She stared silently at the bodies of her pokemon around her, a mix of frustration and sadness filling her heart as she mourned for her companions. The slow realisation that it was her failures that led to this outcome seeped into her mind, driving her further into despair, until something shot past her lightning fast. The Pidgeotto that had taken them all darted about in the sky preparing for the finishing blow... It plunged down towards her, causing her to take a step backwards... only she didn't find ground with her feet. She fell, the aerial platform that the duel had taken place on becoming distant as she plummeted towards the floor. "Lucy!" boomed a familiar voice She bolted upright in her bed, breathing heavily. Her warm, inviting room easing her tension. ...Just a dream... "Lucy!? Are you up yet?" came a voice from downstairs, her mother's "Yeah, i'll be down in a sec!" Lucy replied, hoping out of bed and flipping on the light. It was her first day as a legitimate pokemon trainer. She would have started a few months back at the same time as Ethan, her childhood friend, but her Pokegear had malfunctioned and had to be sent to repairs. Today it was supposed to arrive back, and Ethan had promised to help her catch her first pokemon once it arrived. Lucy hopped down the stairs, all but forgetting the horrible dream at this point as excitement of what the day promised flooded her thoughts. She stopped at the bottom, as her mother got up from breakfast to hand Lucy her things for the coming days. "Professor Elm wanted to see you before you go Lucy." her mom informed. Lucy nodded and raced out the door, ready to take on the world. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A Second Chance... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Lucy jogged over to Prof. Elm's lab, waving to Ethan, who was playing with his Marill as usual. He smiled and waved back before racing off after his pokemon down Route 29. She opened the door into Elm's lab, noticing the Prof. near the back on the phone. She strode back to greet him. "...don't have time to go out there today. Perhaps it could be shipped? No? Too fragile... I see..." Elm glanced over at Lucy, finally noticing her. "Oh, listen, I'll have to call you back. Thanks... Goodbye." he said as he hung up. "Lucy! Perfect timing! I just got a call from Mr. Pokemon about some kind of Revolutionary breakthrough he found, do you think you could head out to his place and gather it for me?" "Err... uh... Sure, I guess. Is that all you wanted?" she replied, slightly disappointed. "No, not at all actually! I have 3 extremely rare pokemon that I wish to test a few theories on, and in order to do that I'll need a trainer to help them grow." Lucy's heart nearly leaped out of her chest. He didn't mean... "...You don't mean...?" she practically stuttered. "Precisely! I want you to have one, and I want you to train it well and experience the world with it! Think you can do tha... Lucy?" She had already gone over to the machine eyeing the computer screens that showed the data of her first pokemon. She peered over the adorable red powerhouse named Cyndaquil, Imagining the powerful flames and intense heat generated by the beast. The next was an adorable blue water based pokemon called Totodile, imagining the raw strength of its jaws and mastery over water. Then she came to Chikorita... and instantly knew. This was the one. Lucy picked up the pokeball and held it for a second, this was it, she was about to meet her first pokemon. She pressed the button and green creature materialized before her. The two stood for second, their glances meeting... and smiled.

"Ooooh, you're so adorable!" exclaimed Lucy as she picked up the small creature, giving it a big hug while doing so. "Adorable was NOT what I was going for..." the small creature said with a surprisingly deep voice. Lucy held the creature in front of her, blinking. "You're a guy? she questioned. "Yeah! So don't be calling me that ok?!" he said with surprising vigor. Lucy set him down, pondering for a second... "...Well ok, my name is Lucy! and I think i'm going to name you... Chad!" she said with a toothy grin. *Chad has joined the party!* ------------------------------ Chad: Male Chikorita/Lv.5/Male/Adamant ------------------------------ Lucy gathered her belongings, including the now-fixed pokegear and set off down route 29. After just a few steps outside of town, she heard rustling coming from the bushes. She froze, Chad taking a defensive posture next to her. The small purple creature leapt out from the grass, it's large front teeth making a clattering sound as it gauged it's prey. Suddenly, it leapt forward, it's mouth agape towards Lucy! But before Lucy even had time to flinch properly, Chad raced in front of her to intercept the attack slamming his body into tiny creature sending it bouncing across the ground. Lucy blinked, it had all happened so fast. She barely had time to even react, let alone help Chad. "You're going to have to be faster than that Lucy, while your hometown might be safe and secure the rest of the world won't likely be quite as friendly." Lucy nodded, this time taking everything in slowly she made her way to Cherrygrove city and then north onto route 30. She encountered a few pokemon along the way, but Chad proved to be quite formidable in battle, easily outmaneuvering and utilizing his mass to defeat his opponents without much resistance. She arrived at Mr. Pokemon's house, and after a brief chat and an introduction with the famous Prof. Oak she gathered the package (which happened to be an egg) and headed back to deliver to Elm. After making it back to Cherrygrove and back onto route 29 though, she encountered a strange looking guy with dark red hair. His gaze was fixed on the path in front of him so much so that he nearly didn't even notice Lucy, nearly bumping into her. "...You... You're the one that Elm gave that pokemon to right? he said quizically. He gave her a once over before frowning and shaking his head. "What a waste, you're no trainer." he scoffed "Eh? What's your problem!? And I am too a trainer, and I'll prove it!" Lucy exclaimed. The boy's eyes flared and he whipped out his pokeball, the Cyndaquil emerging from it with a tiny roar and spittle of fire. Chad stepped out in front of Lucy, grinning slightly. Rival Battle 1: Chad: Lv.8 -------------------- Chad uses Growl Cyndaquil uses Tackle Chad uses Tackle Cyndaquil uses Tackle Chad uses Razor Leaf (Crit?) Cyndaquil down -------------------- The two small creatures exchanged blows, neither one gaining an advantage. Their strength was almost equal. Chad clashed one more time with the Cyndaquil, this time retreating back an extra bit of distance and flung his head forward sending a dozen or so razor sharp leaves hurdling towards his unsuspecting opponent. Slightly dazed from the last blow, it had no time to react to the leaves, taking the blows in full force before finally collapsing. The boy returned the defeated creature, angrily shoving Lucy aside as he marched off. Lucy looked down, noticing the Trainer card of the boy, noting his name... He snatched it up, glaring at her angrily before taking off towards Cherrygrove. Lucy and Chad reveled in their victory, but Lucy couldn't help wonder about the boy. "Heart..."
YoungsterJoeyJr posted... I tracked the topic. Seemed pretty good. What's wrong with Chikorita? :( I always liked Bulbasaur the best among the starters.
Nothing wrong with Chikorita at all. Although Bulbasaur is miles better than Chikorita, in my opinion, out of the three starters you had to choose from Chikorita is the only one able to heal itself using PP instead of an item or a centre. Enjoying this. --- Gum-Gum Gummi Ship: Blueprint Active! "The show where everything's made up and the points don't matter! Let's have some fun!" |
