This has the potential to surpass the originals...

What remains to be seen is if the developers can make a level on par with the Shalebridge Cradle from Thief Deadly Shadows.

One of the most unnerving and terrifying levels I have experienced in gaming. It's up there with the Apple Orchard from Condemned.

Shalebridge Cradle is definitely one of my favorite missions in the series.

I think if I were to list my top three, they'd be:

Life of the Party(this is #1 without a doubt)
Shipping and Receiving
Shalebridge Cradle

As for the game itself, I'll certainly hope it'll be the best. That will take a lot of doing though. I don't think it could top Thief 2 in my books. And with the recent article(in that other topic if you haven't seen it), with fewer "magical" enemies, we might not get many creepy levels like The Haunted Cathedral, Return to the Cathedral, Trail of Blood or Shalebridge Cradle.

It has that potential?

I disagree. Absolutely everything points at an inferior and infidel sequel. Actually the only doubts is if it'll be a decent game or horrible. I don't know where you've seen any logical hints that this had the potential to match up to the originals.

With the recent reveal of information, that's looking increasingly unlikely.

Sorry, man. Don't think I don't -wish- this was great. I love Thief.

Potential to surpass the originals....

HAHAHAHAHAHA, my sides!

>we wanted to bring in more of the modern audience of the console market
I like how developers think these are good things to say.

Yeah, I don't see this happening either. I tend to look at Thief 2 as my nearly perfect game. I liked everything about it: the game mechanics, the story, the stealth, the loot hunt, the secrets, the sounds, the voice acting, the setting, Benny, rope arrows. If the new game isn't the same but with modern graphics, I have trouble seeing that I'll enjoy it as much. Dishonored was probably a good attempt but it left me feeling empty as a Taffer.

Now that said, I was very pleasantly surprised with Deus Ex: Human Revolution (as a big fan of the original). I loved almost everything about that game and that it fit my style nicely. So I'm certainly willing to be surprised by what Eidos produces here.

Yeah, I get being cautious. I haven't liked everything I've heard either. I guess I'm just a "stay positive" kinda guy. :P

This is how I feel as well. I'm also a huge fan of the original Deus Ex, and after so long I was a bit worried about how Human Revolution would turn out. But I think Eidos Montreal took great care in HR and made a great game that respected the original(while also being a big improvement over IW). I'd hope that they take the same care with regards to Thief, which to be honest is a series I treasure much more. I think I need to see more before I make any real judgments though.

Naw get outta here.

Life of the Party (definitely)
Cradle (definitely)
Return to the Cathedral
The Sword gets an honorable mention for having some ****s to the walls architorture.

Shipping and Receiving was a time consuming knockout fest. There wasn't anything challenging about that mission, and it was long as hell for no real reason. It was Lord Baffords manor all over again.
