You get prompted to jump.

Jumping is now a context- sensitive action. “Jumping, bouncing up and down, kind of broke the immersion,” says Schmidt. “We didn’t want you to be the master thief and you just tend to fall off stuff all the time.”

That sounds so stupid he couldn't possibly have said that with a straight face.

This is where I end up clambering up a wall face in third- person, and firing a rope arrow in a quick time event to recover from a forced fall.

lol, bring back rope arrows, then make them a QTE.

*sigh*

I get pissed in a 3rd person MMO when I can't jump.

In a first person game? Are you kidding me? I get pissed not being able to crouch and walk. Now a game is so dumb they remove jumping and making it ... hahahahhaha.. CONTEXT SENSITIVE... HAHAHA.

What ******* IDIOCY IS THIS. STOP IT. I can't take it anymore! LOL.

It just shows the absolutely stupid mindset of the developers that are obviously NOT in a position that they deserve. Taking away freedom like this, and I can bet the streamlined levels will go with this. Oh, and without jumping (or god, the way he speaks its like you can't fall off anything), you're damn sure you'll never have some unusual way to go about a place. Nevermind invisible walls and things that pisses us off, lets add more and more barriers to the base player's freedom and instead of understanding that a game is always more fun with a little bit of freedom in certain respects, lets just make everything contextual.

Which is the complete opposite of good game design.

Its just so pathetic, I can't wrap my mind around it. This is moronizing a game at its best.

I really hope this game fails hard, the amount of dumb crap being paraded around is unreal. They removed almost everything the franchise had besides hiding in shadows. I bet that will be removed too, because they'll think that people won't be able to handle it.

personally I have a feeling the game will be good despite the flaws...
But quick time events are unpardonable!

No freedom of movement, experience from killing enemies, a fancy bow to kill people with, parkour, finishing moves...

this games goes further and further away from being the beloved thief-series where slow stealth and planning was the way to go and killing was not garrets thing and one-on-one just got you killed.

Feels more like a slightly more stealth-oriented assassins creed where the PC wants more gold

You don't get to say you're staying true to the franchise if you MAKE JUMPING A CONTEXT-SENSITIVE ACTION! ~ Me on the Thief reboot.

Oh yay... a swoop.

But to be honest this does far from ruin the game. Thief isn't Mario, so who the hell cares about jumping? At least sneak isn't contextual...

It’s pretty obvious what’s going on here.

The less mechanics that are in the game, the less time and resources are needed to implement and test them to ensure they work properly. For example, instead of designing levels that are robust such that players can’t jump over a fence they’re not supposed to, EM just removed the ability to jump altogether. Removing jumping is just a cost saving measure but EM can’t say that publicly so they make up some BS excuse like ‘why would you need to jump lol?’
