I do believe its just the fact thats its a "hot" game right now. 4 person servers fill up fast, hence you may get bumped to a server farther away much easer now. L4D, i seldom have over a 60 ping, but i join alot of 2 or 3 man servers with a bot or two. L4D2, generaly in the 150's or higher, but alwasy a full server.
Yes, I'm high ping half the time. Generally, if something stupid happens to me like one time where I charged directly into a guy as a charger and went straight through him just to hit the wall on the other side, I quit.
If we're getting high ping servers, I just call a return-to-lobby vote and change the search to Official Dedicated. The official servers are usually really nice; I tend to have high ping (two bars is normal), but in a lot of servers, I find myself having a ping under 50.

It's weird, in L4D2, 150 ping feels like 80. Even with 200 it's playable, compared to L4D1. The melees are actually responsive as apposed to L4D1 if you had more than 120, you were garaunteed to get hit trying to melee. That was from my experiences at least.

Yeah I just found this out. When you are in the game lobby, change the settings to Official. Pind tends to be a lot lower. Kudos to you IceMage20.
I played all day yesterday and we constantly had servers where everyone had like over 200 ping, then when I was in a lobby someone told the lobby leader to not set it to search for best available dedicated, but official servers. we found one after around 15 seconds and we all had around 40-60 ping. I dont know if we just got lucky but maybe try that, by default it just searches for best available dedicated
