Class FAQ: Class Requirements, Djinn, Psynergy, and New Class stats

This FAQ details how the different classes, and the requirements that must be met to reach that class. Also lists Class psynergy, and Class stat modifiers for the 6 new classes. Everything in the FAQ was verified in game for accuracy by me, Satarack. If anyone would like to use the information found here in a FAQ, feel free. No need to contact me or anything, I don’t mind. Give credit if you want, I honestly don’t care either way. I’m more concerned that the information is available then who supplied it.

1. How your class is determined.
Classes are divided between two categories, Character specific classes, and Non-character specific classes. Each class has 2 requirements that must be met to be that class, Elemental Hierarchy, and Minimum Elemental Levels. In addition, the requirements for more than one class can be met at the same time, but the game must choose only 1 between them.

1.1. Elemental Levels
Each character starts with level 5 in their Innate element. Matthew and Himi are Venus Adepts, and start with Venus level 5. Sveta and Karis are Jupiter adepts, and start with Jupiter level 5. Etc.
In addition, every Djinni set to a character increases the Djinni’s element by 1 level. Tyrell with 4 Mercury Djinn set would have Mars level 5 and Mercury level 4. Djinn in standby and recovery do not add to your elemental level.

1.2. Elemental Hierarchy
Your elemental hierarchy is the hierarchy of elemental power currently for your character. A higher elemental level dominates over a lower level element, so if your Venus level is 7, and your Jupiter level is 4, then Venus dominates over Jupiter. The element at the top of this hierarchy is your current Primary element, the next highest is your current Secondary element, and the third highest is your Tertiary (which means 3rd) element. Elements cannot tie, if two elements are at the same level, then the following priority is used to determine which one is dominant:

Innate > Neutral > Weakness > Affinity

This priority changes with your character’s natural element. E.g. Mercury adepts would have the priority:

Mercury > Venus > Mars > Jupiter

If a Venus Adept has level 3 Mars, and level 3 Jupiter, then Jupiter would dominate over Mars; if a Mercury adept had the same elemental levels, then Mars would dominate over Jupiter.

Some classes can have more than one possible Elemental Hierarchy. Ninja for example can have: Primary-Venus Secondary-Jupiter Tertiary-Mars, OR Primary-Mars Secondary-Jupiter Tertiary-Venus.

1.3. Minimum Elemental Levels
Minimum Elemental levels are the easiest to understand, they are simply the lowest combination of elemental levels possible for that class. Depending on the class and the elements involved, it is possible to still be in that class with higher elemental levels. Note that some characters will have to exceed the Minimum Elemental levels to be in a certain class, this happens because their Innate element interferes with reaching the requirements, and must first be exceeded.

1.4. When more than one class has met its requirements.
It is possible to meet the requirement for a Single element class, a Dual element class, and a Triple element class all at once. When this happens, the game chooses your class with priority to the Triple element class, then the Dual element, finally the Single element.

Triple Element > Dual Element > Single Element

This is true in all cases, with one exception, Himi’s Diabolist Class family . The Diabolist Family takes priority over all other classes when its requirements are met. Consequently, Himi cannot become a Samurai or Ronin. Note that Sveta does not have this problem with her exclusive Gladiator class; which leads me to believe that Himi’s problem is the result of a programming mistake. Mistake or not, Himi cannot become a Samurai or Ronin.

1.5. The Wild Animal Class
This is a brand new concept for the Golden Sun series, a battle transformation class. The class itself has no requirements per say, except that the User must be able to cast the Beastform psynergy, and must have at least 1 Djinn. Because Sveta is the only character to know Beastform, only she can have the Wild Animal class. When Beastform is cast, it changes Sveta’s class into the Wild Animal class, so her previous class has no bearing after she casts Beastform. At the end of every turn, starting from the turn after Beastform is cast, one Djinni held by Sveta is put into recovery, except on the turn that ends the battle. If all the Djinn on Sveta are put into recovery, either by an attack or as turns pass, then Sveta will revert back to human form in her Beastling class. Djinn cannot recover while in the Wild Animal class, and will not begin to recover until Sveta has reverted.

2. Class Requirements and Psynergy
There are two categories of classes, character specific classes that were either assigned to specific characters, or programmed to be specifically for only 1 character; and non-character specific classes. In theory, any character can be a non-character specific class as long as they meet the Hierarchy requirement and the elemental levels, however since the maximum number of Djinn per character is 9, and since they each start with level 5 in one element, not every character will be able to be in a particular class.

3.Class Stats
Every class has a set of stat modifiers that it applies after your Base stat, Djinn bonuses, and equipment bonuses:
Current Stat = (Base Stat + Djinn Bonuses + Equipment Bonuses) * Stat Modifier
To calculate the different class stat modifiers for the different classes, I assumed that the Squire Class stat modifiers had remained the same as in the previous two Golden Sun games. Using the stat modifiers for Squire from the past game, I calculated Matthew’s Base Stats, and then used those to calculate the Stat modifiers in all other classes of Matthew’s. To calculate the Stat modifiers for classes that Matthew can’t be, I used a class shared with a character that could be that class to calculate that character’s base stats; and then calculated the class stat modifier for the class in question. For example, Matthew can’t be a Gladiator, but both he and Sveta can be a Medium, so after calculating the stat modifiers for the Medium class, I could calculate Sveta’s Base stats and the Stat modifiers for the Gladiator class.

It turns out that all the returning classes have the same stat modifiers as they did in Golden Sun and Golden Sun: The Lost Age; so I will not bother copying out those class stats here. However, there are some new classes: Hull Reaver, Radiant Miko, Diabolist, Prime Beast, Gladiator, and Wild Animal. Aqua Master turned out to have exactly the same Stat modifiers as Piers’ Admiral Class, so you can find those in one of the FAQs in the about link. The Stat modifiers listed here are percent fractions of the stats, so if it says 150% Attack, that means it’s 150% of attack, or 1.5*(Base Attack + Djinn Bonus + Weapon Attack).
