Sakamoto: This time I wanted to create an intriguing depiction of Samus's humanity, showing that she's not just cool, but also kind and sympathetic, and perhaps a little immature in her passion and earnestness.

Inasmuch as I am anti-feminist, this just reeks of stupidity. If that was what he set out to do, then he failed miserably. You know what's stronger than sympathy? Empathy. Do you know how players garnered that in the previous Metroid titles? By actually controlling her and experiencing / knowing things at roughly the same time. What affects Samus also affects the players. Now we just have a bunch of cut-scenes with her incredibly dull monologues, usually either about Adam or recapping the events of three minutes ago that detaches the audience from her.

Now, I get trying to portray her as immature and brash in the past, but it just sounds good on paper and didn't really manifest itself that well in the end. There just is no character development for her. She's so static that all she's good for is really eye candy. Big deal.

I just recently began playing Corruption again (and I do love that game), and a lot of the things I do makes me feel like a badass (this badassery is also projected onto Samus since she's the character that's doing the hell-raising to the space pirates and whatnot). That shot of all the hunters getting up to face Dark Samus at the climax of the Norion arc seemed very reminiscent of a certain shot in the Avengers (although I must admit, the latter was more epic). I really couldn't remember Samus being "imposing" in Other M.

What Sakamoto said made me angrier than I already was.

Seeing Sakamoto and the Team Ninja guy smugly talk about "automation" of controls, with stuff like sense-move and auto-aim, as if they were brilliant ideas that will revolutionize gaming made me throw up in my mouth a little.

Very interesting in hindsight, though, that the two things that Sakamoto was the most hyped for, the story and the automation of the controls, ended up being the two most hated parts of the game. He even bragged that the game was built around the story in direct violation of Nintendo's usual strategy of doing the exact opposite. Goes to show that there is a reason Nintendo had that philosophy in the first place.

I wonder what Sakamoto would say if hundreds of angry Metroid fans trapped him in an alley and started listing their complaints. Confusion would probably be the first reaction.

The funny thing about that is, Sakamoto is wrong. Miyamoto has gone on record as saying they conceive of the story first for games like Zelda, THEN work on the gameplay.

I'm a chauvinist, but even I don't like how any of the characters were handled for Other M. The sad thing is, the problems are a mountain of smaller ones(Like awkward directing) that stack up to be a great big mess.

Uh, no.

Miyamoto has gone on record saying they don't consider the story until MONTHS before Zelda finishes development.

I'm sure Mr. Aonuma might have a general idea of the story, but Miyamoto probably won't hear any of it.
