I really want to finish this game, but . . . (spoilers) rant
I'm saved outside the boss door to fight Lorithia at about level 70. She's level 75 so i can barely hit her and even then my hits are a lot weaker than normal. The obvious answer is to grind a few levels and switch to Melia as main for the fight. The other answer would be to do a few quests for levels.
I can't stand the level mechanic that this game uses in which the game gimps you if you are a few levels below the enemy you are fighting. My team should be strong enough to take this boss down, but this dumb mechanic gimps my team in a silly way that makes them artificially weaker.
I guess now I just have to put in a silly grind to overcome a silly game mechanic that places an annoying blemish on an otherwise splendid experience.
you can kill enemies 20 levels above you, it just takes preparation and strategy.
The reason why your hitting less is because she uses a buff when her Nebulas are summoned. you need to kill them to dispel that buff.
Finish the game. you can use a number of different strats, but the most important things are:
1) Kill the nebulas, you cant really damage her until you do
2)Use the party commands to call your party to you if they are standing in the acid. This will help keep them alive, and by association help keep you alive
3)If you are missing use the Ether Party: Melia/Riki/Sharla, other users can help you with setting them up
If all else fails, grind a bit, this game is worth finishing, and you're so close
Yeah, I agree that is a rather poor mechanic, even if it was meant to solve a genuine design problem. Most likely the core problem is in the stat system itself though, or maybe in the XP system, so it's still really someone on the design team's fault. If they didn't want players killing stuff 5+ levels above their level, they should've assured that everything of that level packed enough of a punch to totally wreck a party 5+ levels lower than them rather than just relying on agility cheese. Most likely the way they structured the damage algorithms and its relation to each stat made it impossible for them to do that while keeping the difficulty where they wanted it for people at the same level as the enemy.
That said I'm not sure I agree that you would be able to beat that boss at that level even if agility wasn't an issue. She's one of the harder bosses in the game, if only because your party members' AIs refuse to stay out of the green goop. It's hell to keep recalling them every 10 seconds or so and harms their ability to fight effectively, especially since Lorlor will sometimes block them in with her huge mass and their pathing doesn't seem that able to get around her quickly. That problem also makes me expect that you probably will have to gain a few levels to beat her rather than pulling off an underdog victory. If it was a normal battle arena, an underdog victory would probably be more viable, but the green goop is just headache inducing.
Impossible is just a word. The reality is in fact far more horrifying.
Stop ignoring the sidequests and do them. Come back after finishing them all at level 95 and rofflestomp her.
you can just use riki/sharla/melia and tear her ass up if you want even from lvl 70 its no problem
I do have one question about Lorithia. Is it possible to kill off her elements without them blowing up in your face? That made that battle so tough. It would seem like I would bash the elements to 0 HP and they wouldn't die before discharging. And with the discharge comes knockback (sometimes into the green goop) and various debuffs

not a silly game mechanic. it's a typical RPG mechanic. i know, Lorithia was very frustrating my 1st time also. I had to go grind for a while before i smashed her evil face. but when i did....i celebrated out loud, calling her the worst of names.
waiting for: The Last Story
Bash the elements to 0 HP, and then move on to another target at a safe distance before they discharge.
Also, the game's levelling system (which otherwise does a fantastic job of making sure you're not underlevelled, so long as you kill what aggros you as you make your way through each area) does have an embarrassing hiccup at this point. I'd spoiler it, but you already marked spoilers in the topic title and it's nothing past your current point in the plot anyway.
(Regular) enemies in Agniratha top out at level 67, and after all the bosses and plot when it's time to start killing regular enemies again in Bionis' Interior, the lowest level enemies there are level 72. The difficulty of fighting them with that level gap may suggest that you just say screw it and run from everything until the boss, but then you're in even worse shape level-wise for the boss.
Telethia in Colony 6 are level 68-70, and fish and flamingos in Colony 9 are level 70-72, allowing you to bridge that gap and be able to comfortably tackle the Bionis' Interior enemies. Then you can fight your way through that area normally, which should leave you at a more reasonable level for the boss. You don't have to be level 75 yourself, but you'll very probably have an easier time if she only has a 1-2 level advantage over you rather than a 5 level advantage.
