Which I don't understand. What the hell is the difference between losing some experience when you die, and having to run all the way back to your corpse from your respawn point? You still lose the same amount of time essentially, it takes just as long to run back to your corpse as it does to revive and get your experience back, so what the hell gives? Is it just some knee-jerk reaction to losing experience?

Not really it take way longer to get experience back since it only takes 10 seconds too 5 minutes to run back to your corpse since WoW has graveyards practically everywhere except in cities which i find odd and on FFXI at higher levels it can take ages to get 10% of a level depending on your party.

ya can't level down from a corps run. and corps runnin' doesn't take anywhere near as long as tryin' to level up again naked and solo cuz nobody will party with some gimp ass naked level 39 warrior. the durability loss happens gradually (i think its like 10% loss to equipped weapons and armor when you die in WoW) and can be recovered by paying gold to NPCs.

see, death penalties should be minor inconveniences like these. enough to make players not want to just jump off a cliff, but not enough to make them want to throw their controller off a cliff. death penalties shouldn't discourage players from... playin' the game.

nobody in FF11 tried ta fight a marbol one on one cuz they were afraid of the death penalty. they didn't run off to explore some weird area alone because they were afraid of the death penalty. players disbanded groups at the 1st sign of a mistake that "might" happen in the future because they were afraid of the death penalty. in many cases, the FF11s death penalty made it so that the juice just wasn't worth the squeeze.

A corpse run in an area far away from your body can take you maybe ten minutes. And this was before they added the graveyards all over the place. Doesn't take nearly that long anymore. You pay a gold fee to repair and unless you have been on the worst raid ever this should not be a concern.

This is compared to FFXI where I used to lose thousands of experience just by walking into the zone. It is not like you got considerably more experience as you leveled up. It can take awhile even hours, to get that back if no one around you has Raise 2 or 3.

De-leveling just makes things more annoying than it was.
