... It still makes me a little uncomfortable to see someone curl up into the fetal position and die. Something about that animation... It makes me feel a little bit bad for them. :(

Had there been more blood and gore like say something like FEAR 2, that ish would be REALLY disturbing. Remember the ones from Turok 2? Those were particularly crazy. Shoot an enemy at the throat and they'd walk a good bit as they slowly slowly came to a crashing stop, making a loonnnnng gurgling sound. Though call me evil, but it was kid of fun seeing that as I'd never seen it before in a game. These two definitely gave me some DAMN!!! moments.

One that really gets me is from Medal of Honor Frontlines where you shoot a guy in the head and he'll touch the back of his head and look at it as if he had touched the wound and saw the blood and then he'll fall. that one had similar scripted deaths that looked painful as well.

A shot in the crotch area is enough to make any man feel... Unnerved.

Sort of a question related to this, but does anyone know if any game since this used the whole idea of hit locations effecting the enemies actions? I mean like guards limping when shot in the leg, or guns being shot out of hands?

Fallout 3 did to some extent.

The original soldier of fortune did, as did the second I think, although the first might have come out before this, or at least around the same time.

You could shoot someone in the throat and they'd start choking to death, but then for good measure you could blow their head off ( I miss decapitation in games ) and he'd sit there grasping onto a bloody stump where his head used to be, gurgling. Good stuff, I'm not even sure they'd get that past censors now.

Blackadder (on seeing Baldrick getting shot in the groin with an arrow): Bad luck, Balders

Baldrick: Don't worry, my lord. The arrow did not in fact enter my body. By a thousand to one chance, my willy got in the way.

Blackadder: That so, Baldrick? You can call it your 'lucky willy'

Baldrick: Yes my lord. Years from now I shall take it out and show my grandchildren.

Blackadder: I think grandchildren may now be out of the question.

I remember that in soldier of fortune, I think the second one, you could shot someone's face off. They need more of that in these "realistic" FPS.

Yes... the censors seem really inconsistent about this stuff. They cut out the chainsaw animation in RE5 but you can rip out a head and spine in AVP.

I think it was technically before, but the aforementioned Turok 2 had some pretty sweet ways to actually blow limbs and heads OFF, and if I'm not mistaken there were a few enemies that, when shot in the chest, you could see through the gaping hole. I guess you wouldn't say any of these actually changed the actions because they were all kill shots, but death animations were influenced by it.
