From someone who played MGS back in 1997 here are my 2 cents.

MGS was AMAZING when it first came out. I could go on and on but it to give you some insight I hated action games but MGS quickly became one of my favorite games. It still is.

Then I bought a PS2 just for MGS2 and I'm not hating on the game but it was nothing like MGS. MGS3 was great I loved it as well, but it's still nothing like MGS. Never played MGS4 (don't have a PS3) but I watched the youtube videos and all I have to say is it seems okay (story wise) but still nothing at all like MGS.

Does anyone else share my sentiments about this? That MGS created an empire but never really produced a sequel?

Again all in mho.

I imagine many people share your opinion, but I'm not one of them. Although I still like it very much, MGS1 is actually my least favorite game in the main Solid series. I realize that's strange.

I'm not complaining about this game, first I haven't played it and second I KNOW it won't be anything like MGS.

how much fun it was to follow someone around while hiding in a box

MGS3 is the most overrated video game in gaming history just like how The Boss is the most overrated game character in video game history.

MGS1 + MGS2 is where the quality's at. Hopefully, this game follows suit.

Tbh I think each title is a masterpiece. Each one has its strengths and weaknesses, but still all are amazing in different ways.

I'd say MGS was closest out of the Solid games to the original MGS because the play style was the same. Nothing changed just better graphics.

Granted you could say 3+4 dont feel like MGS because they ad new dynamics and mechanics and massive graphical improvements but this is just MGS moving with the times.

What about 2,3,4 make them 'nothing like' MGS in you opinion TC?

All numbered MGS were amazing imo, but personally my very favorites were MGS1 and MGS3. MGS2 and MGS4 were incredible too but they didn't have the emotional impact of MGS1 and MGS3 on me.
