| Not for nothing, but MGS actually came out in 1998. The game itself doesn't really play like older MGS games, so you aren't wrong about that, but it carries some of that spirit. |
| Respectfully disagree.
MGS1 was, and still is, amazing and really changed my view on video games. But MGS2 is my favorite game of all time, and I seriously don't see that ever changing. When it came out my anticipation was pretty much uncontrollable, and playing through it for the first time(despite, at the time, wanting to play as Snake and being confused from Arsenal onwards) was an experience that has yet to be matched.
I've literally played through that game over 50 times, and ironically I just started playing it again the other day(E.Extreme run). Over the years I've grown to appreciate so many different elements of the game, and I learn new meanings behind the fundamentals the game was built on. I personally think it's the most interesting game in the series, with the tightest mechanics and engine. I know the game is polarizing to fans but as someone has beat nearly every Metal Gear more times than I can count, it's easily my favorite.
But yeah, I can kind of see what you mean about MGS1. I think MGS4 soured the series though, that game has more problems than I ever could've imagined before its release. |
| I think I like all of the series equally and differently. Maybe my edge would have to go to MGS2 because of how many times I played it, and could keep playing it. All of them were masterpieces in their own ways though. MGS1 was completely awesome and definitely changed the game. I know there are a ton of people who claim MGS1 as their favorite.

| MGS2 actually is pretty close to MGS when it comes to the gameplay.
MGS3īs evolution sadly lost most of that(while adding other really interesting mechanics).
Its just sad that MGS2 took the story-turns it took(though after MGS4 2 certainly doesnt feel remotely as bad anymore). |

| Yeah, I grew up with the franchise, getting into it in '98 with MGS1. Everyone's at least a tad different; for me, MGS3 and MGS4 rank supreme and will very likely continue to do so well into the future unless Ground Zeroes blows me away, which, hey, maybe it will.
I don't dislike any entry in the (canon) series, although Metal Gear and Portable Ops get on my nerves at times and there's at least a sampling's worth of cringeworthy-as-hell dialogue in every title. And yes, 4's certainly no bright star in that regard, but I feel like it's Kojima at his best and worst in one package, and the moments of "best" are just that good.
