As I said earlier, the likelihood of one act being that long even with heaps of cutscenes (which I fully expect to be significantly fewer than MGS4's) was slimmer than it being representative of the full game.

I rather play a great game for 5 hrs than to play crap game in 14 hrs.

Well they could make a great game that lasts 14 hours. Wouldn't that be even better?

If it's the same kind of length as Bayonetta I'll be happy enough, I don't get the argument of "It's an action game" though. I know action games tend to be about 10 hours but really, if they made a great action game with great combat and a core experience that lasts 15-20 hours wouldn't that be great? As long as the game is consistently good I'd love to have more of it to play.

For me the thing with having a short game is that yes, going up the difficulties and learning new techniques is fun but when I'm going through the same areas fighting the same enemies over and over I'm going to get bored soon enough. Hopefully they do what DmC and Bayonetta did and remix enemy placement on higher difficulties.

I am still very much looking forward to playing it though.

I don't know if this has been mentioned before (too many pages to look through), but there was a very similar controversy about game length when Vanquish was released (I loved Vanquish and felt that it ended at a good spot without wearing out its welcome, but anyway..). Basically, however it is that Platinum measures game length, they underestimate it by a large amount. Thats not to say that 5 and a half hours is really 10, but it is probably between 7 and 8. That might not be long enough to justify a $60 purchase from people, but that sits okay with me since I have been so excited to get my hands on this.

They only count successful playthroughs. If you die, the counter resets. During cutscenes, the counter doesn't start.

If the game has 3-4 hours of cutscenes, you won't see them in the final screen. If you died 60 times and that added an additional 2-3 hours of gameplay, that also won't be shown.

Dunno why they do this when every other game just lets the counter keep going and going.

You really got to the idea out of your head of this being Baynoetta. Yes, it's hack&slash but it's still a Metal Gear game. Traditionally, Metal Gear games ain't that long without the cut scenes so you should be over the moon if the game is under 6hrs (most likely 7-8 with cut scenes).

welp, not buying this anymore. bayonetta was a 12 hour game. don't know why platinum couldn't do the same with this game.

You do realize that this so-called journalist just speed run through the entire game, right?

Besides, MG games without the cut scenes can be done in 3hrs or less.

you know that, how?

also, nobody beats mg games in 3 hours or less in their first playthrough.

You've really got to get the idea out of your head that this is a Metal Gear Solid game, because it's Metal Gear Rising and they have stated multiple times that it has it's own standards rather than complying to what people expect from a Solid game.

My comment isn't necessarily just about this game though, I'd love for someone to make a great action game with a 20 hour campaign. The reality of the situation though is that it'd probably cost too much to make for them to make a reasonable profit.

Personally I'm not going to be ecstatic at whatever they present me with, I'll play the game and if I feel it is good and has enough content I'll be satisfied, if it feels like it lacked content I'll be disappointed. I really hope they got the amount of content right, I felt they did a good with Bayonetta in that respect and with this being a Platinum, action game I think it's reasonable to compare it in that sense.

That's what most journalists do, they don't give a crap about the structure of a game.

This particularly person just wanted something to bloat about, that's all.

You said I should hold it to the standards set by the Metal Gear series, what were you talking about if not Solid? The original series? No, you were comparing it to the Solid series.

And yes, like I said I know we're not getting any 20 hour action games, primarily because of the cost, that's just one of those things I'd really like to see at some point.
