What is the story of this game and does it game undermine the ending of MGS 4?

I haven't been following this game a whole, whole lot ever since Platinum games took over. Nothing against Platinum, it just kinda fell off my radar. After playing the demo, I enjoyed the game well enough, and I was going to at least rent it. As far I knew, the game was meant to take place between 2 and 4, explaining why Raiden was who he was in MGS4. But now I've learned that it takes place after 4, seemingly undermining Raiden's happy ending in 4 with his family and being put back together.

I understand that this game is apparently diving into Raiden's history and mantra as "Jack the Ripper," but to anyone else, does this game kind of ruin the ending of MGS4 for them? It might just be me, but MGS4 was an absolutely perfect ending to the Metal Gear story. I've been avoiding this game mostly because for me, the Metal Gear story ended with 4.

I guess my question is, should I play this game if I'm perfectly content and prefer the Metal Gear story ending with 4?

Drebin said something about some dark future if I remember right.

Anyway, before the RAY fight, you learn a vague reason why the game is going on and pretty much addresses the ending in MGS4.

tc unless i am missing something cyborgs can out live a humans life spam many times over if not till they are terminated, so his family could be dead (unless the year difference isnt that big) which would leave a lot more room to work with the story

The game starts out with Raiden having a job as a bodyguard to support his family. Then things go south for him.

@Billysan

Goes south? So he finds out about old world slavery and decides to end it?

I'm a Christian. I play Diablo 3 and one of my favorite video game characters is the Lich King from Warcraft. Deal with it.

That is one of the more lame jokes I have heard so far.

Well, Honestly this game wasnt too bad. It is a little too "current" with its politics tho. and at times it really embraces the cheese. But as far as reasons for Raiden to keep doing this. I guess it gives him a good reason. (he cant just stand by while stuff's still happening)

If you were mainly worried about 4 being the perfect ending, I can see why, but hey, you have ground zeroes and (maybe) metal gear solid V (the phantom pain?) to look forward to with Big Boss

I think that the MGS4 ending was about freeing people from the patriots control, so nobody is a slave to the AI system.

Then along comes the big-bad of this game, who states he liked the war economy and starts chaos all over again.

The answer is : some people are jerks who don't like peace and quiet.
