Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
is this game canon?
Back To: Board List | Topic List | Topic Archived
It probably isn't because Kojima will probably one day want to move the story forward instead of just exploring Big Boss' past, and this heavy cyborg world doesn't really feel a good setting for a MGS game.
mgsmasterofit posted... The game isnt canon. It uses the setting and background of the previous MGS games but thats it. it is more or less an alternate universe sort of like AC!D was. Kojima himself said the game wasnt canon and just a spinoff. on his twitter he stated its not a MGS game and just uses the setting of 4 years after 4. Keep in mind when people say "this means its not a SOLID game so its still canon" It would be pointless for kojima to state this because anyone that can read the game title will notice that Solid isnt in the title. This is Kojimas way of saying that it isnt canon. Its just a spin off, nothing more. So Metal Gear 1 isn't canon due to the lack of SOLID? --- Nanomachines, Son

By that logic, MG and MG2: SS are not canon either...they have been retconned to death but they are still canon as the overall events are still canon --- Chapter 7, that's all you need to say to a Valkyria fan, they'll know what you mean-Celestial Damnation (see quote)
sephiroth068 posted... mgsmasterofit posted...Ok, bad wording on my part. Back then Solid wasnt there. We all know the MG and MGS games are a continuation cause Kojima said so. I mean it strikes me as odd that he would say that for MGR:R especially after saying "they are just using the setting of 4 years after mgs4" It just strikes me as odd because anyone that can read would be able to see Solid wasnt in the title. That clear it up any better? Im not so good at explaining it and i apologize. The game isnt canon. Considering that Kojima would have preferred to use Gray Fox, or to make it a prequel to MGS4, I don't think the current incarnation is what he wanted to do with the official story. It's a side project with no relevance to the true series. Sunny's appearance toward the end is the only thing other than the mentions of SOP, the Patriots, Metal Gears and Cyborgs that even grounds it in the Metal Gear universe. Nothing truly major even happens. It's a self-contained story that would've worked just as well using any character other than Raiden. Heck, it could've used Sam as the main character and been just as relevant. --- If I were a woman, I would spend my entire day kissing other women. People are arguing it isn't canon? Trolling or just plain dense? --- I wish Blastoise was my dad. He wouldn't beat my mom like what her boyfriend, Johnny does. If Blastoise was my dad things would be different around here.

He has stated many times he had little to do with this one. Other then occasionally checking in. Now this doesnt exactly mean that its the definitive "Its not canon" but its certainly something to point out

Kojima has directly stated that the game is canon, but its setting is outside of the existing storyline to make it easier to work the power of Raiden's character into the story without him being TOO powerful for his enemies. In some ways, it's a continuation of events that were set in motion in MGS4, but it's a standalone story that works independently of the MGS series. It's a side story from MGS, which is why it's Rising instead of Solid, but it's still Metal Gear. It's the same universe, and it's official. It's just not as much about stealth any more. --- "I want my meals to think for myself"

Its similiar to AC!D How it talks about stuff that happened in the past but doesnt effect the story. Like an alternate universe. |
