megaultrarice34 posted... Volgin, aka the walking human battery with no explanation. It's more a matter of pacing. Volgin, Vamp and Solidus have a lot of buildup and have a presence the entire game. Sorrow and Fury were one-off bosses fought in the middle of the game (and the Sorrow still got a lot of foreshadowing if you paid attention). Meanwhile, Senator Armstrong has almost no build up, is played for self-parody, comes out of almost nowhere and is the final boss in the game. When you suddenly slap a comical boss like Senator Armstrong to the end of the game, most players will feel insulted. It makes them think they waisted their time ever taking the game seriously. Senator Armstrong might indeed be a bit of the creators trolling the fanbase; it's been speculated on this board that he's supposed to be a parody of MGS final bosses, or MGS itself. --- Funky Strong "Date vuelta. I don't know how you took it seriously after the first 3 or 4 hours. Felt like a Suda 51 game. And Suda pulls this crap all the time. Goofy bosses from out of nowhere, and people love it. --- Want to watch a fat redneck do stupid crap? I do it for free. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7zTheJ1EQw

Vamp was a very strong and menacing character with him running through water, swimming in a pool of water right after he described said pool would kill you if you touch it, and his dancing contest with Raiden. Solidus was also a menacing character as evidenced by him harnessing all his power, only for him to gain weight. I still remember the Shakespearean scene where Volgin grabs Snake's privates --- TRY TO REMEMBER THE BASICS OF CQC

Sam just isn't final boss material, lol he's a lacky. Making him final boss, would be like making Vulcan Raven final boss of mgs1. XD --- I AM SATANAIL. HE WHO SHALL SET RIGHT THIS DISTORTED UNIVERSE!!!

I still remember the Shakespearean scene where Volgin grabs Snake's privates and HEY GUYS I HOPE YOU DON'T NOTICE THAT THIS IS A TEXTBOOK STRAWMAN'S ARGUMENT This game was goofy all over. I don't know how you took it seriously after the first 3 or 4 hours. Felt like a Suda 51 game. And Suda pulls this crap all the time. Goofy bosses from out of nowhere, and people love it. Both of you are missing the point while completely ignoring context, and it's a little ridiculous. Nobody said that MGS wasn't unrealistic and silly. What's important is context and pacing. Trust me, I am the first person to laugh at MGS cutscenes. However, MGS tends to make sense within its own context and boundaries as a work of fiction, that way it doesn't shatter the suspension of disbelief. The Pain is a thoroughly ridiculous character, and he's not even the silliest boss in MGS3. However, The Silly Bee Man and characters like him are introduced early in the plot so as to establish a trend for their presence. They don't come out of nowhere. The Vamp is present for the whole Big Shell arc, as is the Fortune. They appear often and are implied to have mystical powers (until Fortune is explained, and The Vamp was reconned to be all nanotech in MGS4). There's a lot of buildup to their boss fights and discussion/display of his supernatural abilities, so it's not entirely out of the question that Vamp can stab you in the shadow. The final bosses of MGS also tend to make sense as final bosses, and take themselves very seriously. Fighting Liquid Snake and Solidus Snake were probably the only logical conclusions to MGS1 and 2. Defeating The Boss was the goal of MGS3 the whole time, and it was absolutely tragic. In MGS4, you literally fight Liquid Ocelot for no other reason but that it would be a good way to wrap up the series. In terms of plot, he had no reason to abduct Solid Snake so that they could go fight to the death on top of Arsenal Gear. He even explains that it's all over but he still wants to fight. "But... we still have a score to settle." It makes sense thematically to conclude the series by fighting Liquid Ocelot. Revolver Ocelot was your rival the entire series and the only character to appear in every MGS game, and their final showdown was a good way too wrap up the series. It pays homage to the other 3 games, and thematically it's the son of Big Boss vs the son of The Boss. Comparatively, Senator Armstrong has no buildup nor foreshadowing. You see him once from behind and he's mentioned in a codec. MGR kind of has weak bosses in general, you meet them just before you kill them, but both Sam and Sundowner have buildup starting from the beginning of the game and have made more sense as final bosses. continued next post --- Funky Strong "Date vuelta.
