Question about Raiden's character design (spoilers I guess)

How come after he gets his left eye scrambled they just put a bandage over it & tinker with his good eye? Or did he already have the thermal thingamabob in that eye & I didn't notice?

Nah, they didn't have time to make an "eyeball" so he can actually see out of the bandanna across his left eye... And I don't know whether his eye was enhanced already

Cause they felt the need for him to have an "eyepatch" just like Big Boss and Snake in MGS4.

It was to evoke BB and Snake's eyepatch in 4 obviously but the in-game reason is that they didn't have time to make a brand new cybernetic eye so the eyepatch is actually a high quality sensor superior many times to any human eye. It's like a camera wired to his optical nerves, or what's left of them. The eye Sam cut was still human.

I would assume the entire body is new (since the Black body has barcodes on his forehead and such that the White body lacks), but that does beg the question as to why he was still missing an eye. Unnecessary inclusion of a bandana? Sure, I'll buy that. He looks badass with it anyway.

I think they also wanted an excuse to continue the bandana motif the Metal Gear games are synonymous with.

It's explained in the CODEC convo's. The eyepatch functions as an AR-eye anyway. To make a complete humanoid eye would take too long and wouldn't give any combat improvements.
