Anyone here have a q9450 or similar?

I was just wondering if anyone here has this CPU or one of the related models, such as the 9550 or 9650. I don't want to build a brand new rig. I think I'll just upgrade the graphics card. Right now my rig is...

q9450 @ 2.83 GHz
Radeon 4870 (will probably upgrade to something more hefty)
4 GB of DDR2

I'm hoping to squeeze some nice performance out of my q9450 with a little extra juice out of gtx560 or something like that.

i beleive my OC wasnt there when i was running beta, and i ran high/ultra at 50 fps with my rig. meaning my cpu was clocked at 2.8 too, ran it nicely provided you have a good gpu. i think you can escape a new build myself, easily. spend $200 or so on a gpu, run high or better imho. overclocking does wonders if you are able to do so.

I have the Q9550 @2.83GHz with 8GB DDR2 with a GTX 275, and it run the beta fine. I wouldn't worry about upgrading the CPU, but if you want to upgrade. The graphics card is the most important thing and will affect the game the most.

Yeah, just update the GPU. I have a Q9400, and I ran the beta pretty badly with a GT230. Upgraded to an HD6950, I was able to crank BC2 to max everything and running buttery smooth as opposed to low-medium everything and still lagging in smoke. BF3 will probably be alright on med-high for me.

Thanks. Good to know the beta ran well on similar rigs. I'll upgrade my gpu and hopefully I'll be good to go.

I have the Q9550 clocked at 4GHz, so you guys can always do a bit of clocking if wish to gain a slightly better fps.

Got a...

q9400 OC'd to 3.6 ghz

6950 2gb

Caspian Border "Max" settings w/o AA @ 1080p ~ 30-40 fps

Operation Metro 40-60 fps

Q9450 stock speed
Sapphire 4870 1GB
4 GB RAM

Beta ran very nicely in both maps with 45+ fps.

You are better off upgrading to a 560Ti over the Q9650. And will probably get+25 fps with the GPU upgrade at 1080p over a CPU upgrade.

Research materials to determine upgrade selection:

1-Tom's Hardware: "Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart." According to hierarchy chart the 260 gtx is equivalent to the 4870.

The 560Ti is 2 hierchy levels above the 4870

2- Tom's Hardware: "Gaming CPU Hierarchy Chart." Acording to the hierarchy chart the Q9650 is only 1 level above your Q9450.

3- FTW. Above average IQ Asian guy presenting an actual BF3 gameplay comparison test video on Youtube. 8)

The comaprison is between a gtx260 and a gtx560Ti.

Go to Youtube. Copy/paste this in search field: Battlefield 3 gtx 560ti vs gtx 260 compare &gameplay

Expand the "show more" under the video to review the test results.

Brand for the 560Ti. EVGA models that allows upgrade trade ins w/i 90 dyas of purchase. Just incase we see Kepplers come out early 2012 Q1. I think the 560Ti price/performance will keep prices up until next gen chips.
