Sonic 4, is it worth it?

Sonic 2 was one of my favorites in my childhood. Sega improved everything perfectly with plenty of variety. Sonic 3 was also a great game because of more playable characters, longer stages, more replayability, great soundtrack and because the storyline was much more complicated. I grew up with Sonic, so when I heard Sonic 4 was in the making, I was very interested in it.

I read many reviews and the general feedback is that the game was not really what people were looking for. How do you feel? Is it worth the 1,500 Wii Points?

I bought Sonic Colors on the Wii about a month ago, I beat it last week. It's pretty good. People are saying that Sonic Colors, whether you pick the DS version or the Wii version, is superior in every way to Sonic 4. What's your stance?

Sonic Colors I think is better than Sonic 4 but this game is still one of the best ones. people tend to complain that Sonic is too slow in this or things related to that but in my opinion, this game plays exactly like the orginal 3 games

Is it worth it? Not really. The gameplay actually manages to regress, the level design is lacking regardless of your point of reference, the music is grating, and the game lacks the replay value of its predecessors.

absolutely worth it, and Colors is just the same crap that Sonic's day stages were in Unleashed but done a lot better.

Also, Sonic 3's not as good as 2.

I think it's not worth it. I kinda regret buying it. If it was less expensive, I wouldn't be bothered, but 15$ is too much for this.

Yes this game is worth it. It has 12 stages that share the same aesthetics as the Genesis games with pretty decent level design. It also has pretty high replay value when trying to get a faster time on the leaderboards and when collecting the Chaos Emeralds.

...15$ is too much for this.

Oh please, if there end up being 3 episodes and each one is $15 then the game in its entirety will still be worth less than a retail Wii game!
Besides, the Genesis games each cost $8 on the VC so in order to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles you will have to spend $16 - and that game was made in 1994! So $15 for S4: Ep. 1 (part of a brand new game) is a bargain the way I see it...

Anyway TC, only one episode of Sonic 4 has been released so far - and I wasn't as impressed by it like I was with Sonic 2 or S3&K... but there's a high chance that Tails and Knuckles will be playable in future episodes, so Sonic 4 (the complete game) may end up rivaling the classic Genesis titles!

I got the game for free and I was still disappointed.

No, if one episode isn't worth a certain amount, then 3 times that episode won't be worth 3 times the same amount, even if that's less than for a retail game.

"Besides, the Genesis games each cost $8 on the VC so in order to play Sonic 3 & Knuckles you will have to spend $16 - and that game was made in 1994! So $15 for S4: Ep. 1 (part of a brand new game) is a bargain the way I see it..."

Hum, no. You can have S3&K on Sonic Mega Collection for 10 bucks, in addition of all other Sonic games and more. I agree that 16$ is expensive for a genesis game, but still, S3&K remains a classic and is worth it. It has 25 original acts, awesome bosses, great music, three different characters, Super and Hyper forms, a great replayability and it's pretty long.

Sonic 4 on the other hands doesn't have any original act; they're all rehashes from old acts (Green Hill, Casino Night, Labyrinth Zone and Metropolis). Even the bosse are almost the same. The gameplay and the physics are very criticized (for a good reason). The music goes from good-average to just plain terrible (casino street 3 comes to mind) and only lasts 30 seconds (shorter than any genesis sonic game). Some of the design ideas are very strange, like the torch puzzle in the labyrinth zone. This is all pretty subjective I know, but that's what I really think of Sonic 4.

Maybe future episodes will be better, but from what I've seen from episode 1, I'm pretty skeptic they can make a good game.
