Armor vs Vitality

#1Ryze82Posted 5/19/2011 4:15:18 PM
Ok, so which is best armor or vitality?

Mostly asking because I don't know which trophy i should "wear" I have the Kayren trophy which gives 3 armor and 50 vitality and it's "epic" as the game says..

The other one is from a Boulvard or whatever it was called... and that one gives me 8 armor but no vitality.. and I think that one is only common..

Any help would be great! Thanks!

Depends if your going swordsman which has heaps of damage% resistance than go with the vitality. If not go with the armor.

Er are you sure? How is damage resistance calculated, and how is armor calculated? If anything, damage resistance might make you want to go for more armor, I don't see why you'd want to stack vit.

damage resistance adds to your armor

so for instance if you have 20% damage resistance and 100 armor you in effect have 120 armor

vitality is hit points straight up

damage is

damage done - armor = damage taken

so higher armor = less damage taken

thus most of the time armor beats vitality

Unfortunately that post doesn't make sense. 20% damage resistance does not equal 20 armour. According to what you wrote, if you take 200 damage and have 20% DR and 100 armour, you would receive 200 - 120 = 80 damage.

However, 20 PERCENT damage resistance means you resist 20% of 200 which is 40 damage. If that stacks with 100 armour then you would receive 200 - 140 = 60 damage.

Please don't post that kind of thing if you don't know what you're talking about.

So the damage reduction by armor is a 1:1 ratio? 1 armor = 1 damage reduction?

I was thinking its more of a percentage value...

xeno is right, look at the combat log and you will understand.

On a side note, my previous post was just for the sake of correcting the other post. I have not started playing yet so I do not know the mechanics myself.

In any case, %DR scales with damage whereas armour does not (from what I gather so far). If that is the case it would be safe to say that armour is more effective early game due to low damage while DR is more effective late game due to higher damage.

As an example:

If you have 10%DR, 0 armour and receive 10 damage, you would take 9 damage.
If you have 0%DR, 5 armour (and assuming armour linearly subtracts damage) then you would take 5 damage instead of 9.
Armour is more effective in this case.

If you have 10%DR, 0 armour and receive 100 damage, you would take 90 damage.
If you have 0%DR, 5 armour, you would take 95 damage instead of 90.
%DR is more effective in this case.

Like I said before, I have not started playing yet so I do not know how the game progresses. If there is a combat log with numerical values, that makes it easier to gauge the average damage received then you can adjust your gear accordingly for maximum protection.
