I'm not sure why, but I bought a new PC last week

Win 7 64
i-3550 @ 3.20GHz
4 gig ram
Geforce 405
1tb HD

...Now, this is the first time since Win 98 I've ever really tried gaming on a PC, so it's probably an easy fix

I also bought DoW II Redemption and Sims Medieval and they both run fine though

But when I play this it's all jerky and slow on auto-detected settings

Anyone wanna help please?

First of all.

The auto-detect in this game is next to useless. Requires manual tinkering to find the optimal settings.

You have good RAM. Your CPU could bottleneck overall performance. I'm not too sure on the card, but it is a lower 400 series, so I am leaning towards it also underperforming.

The Witcher 2 is a very demanding game.

Make sure to keep your shadows low, keep ubersampling off, and all blur setting. Blur just games the game blurry, ubersampling nom noms your performance like a fat kid would cake.

Geforce 405 is like GeForce 205 but with DX11 support, a crappy card for gaming.

Drop all settings to low - your CPU and GPU both barely meet the minimum requirements (assuming you meant Geforce GTS 450), you should be able to play the game.

I hope that rig wasn't expensive. You don't even have a real graphics card.

Why you do this? T_T

Dunno how much of a problem the CPU is, I run it at high and then some other extras with Athlon x4 @ 3,5 ghz. The graphics card is a hd5870, so I'm guessing that his card is the weak spot.
Athlon II x4 (Unlock x3 450)@ 3,52 ghz, Scythe Katana 3, Powercolor HD5870 PCS+, 4 Gb Kingston 1333mhz DDR3. ASUS M4A88T-M, V7-Chassis.
So small, so powerful.

Just cuz it's new doesn't mean your parts are on the low-end side. It's like buying a new PS2 instead of a PS3.

Yup.....hence why he said "new" because that means nothing.
