Koelker12Posted 7/13/2012 12:32:00 PM | I'm not really sure how I feel about it yet. I loved AA, but this one kinda left me with mixed feelings. The gameplay, voice acting, graphics, music, etc. were all amazing, but the story just never won me over as a whole.
There were great parts, of course, but the premise itself never convinced me. I still don't really understand the point of AC, or at least how the hell it was passed. Was Mayor Sharp a straight monarch with absolute power? It's just a terrible idea, and seemed like an excuse to get a bunch of villains crammed together like in AA.
And I think that was the major flaw; too many major characters. AA had Joker, with Ivy and and Croc supporting. AC had Strange, Ras al Ghul, Joker, Mr. Freeze, Penguin, Two-face (though minor), as well as Catwoman, Talia, and Robin for whatever reason.
I would have dropped the whole Ras/Wonder City/Talia thing. I get that he wants to purge Gotham of crime, but the whole concept of creating Arkham City seems unnecessary. Why not just bomb AA while all the supervillains are inside, if that's what he was trying to accomplish.
I think they could have approached it differently. Let Strange be the mastermind, with Joker playing a secondary role. For the end they could have traded out Talia (who looked/acted like some guidette from Jersey Shore IMO) for Catwoman.
And what's up with "killing" Joker and Strange? This kind of forces the Arkham series to be in its own little universe, which I'm not really a fan of. Sure they may have a way to bring Joker back or show it was a trick, but c'mon. Strange's death was pretty disappointing for me.
I am however curious as to what's going to happen to Clay Face after he was pushed into the Lazarus pit... --- http://roguereview.blogspot.com/ |
Koelker12 (Topic Creator) Posted 7/13/2012 12:35:23 PM | PS. It also felt incredibly short compared to AA. I kinda felt forced through the main missions with their sense of urgency, so I haven't had a chance to finish about half the side missions, but still. It seems like the actual story missions only covered 5 or 6 hours... --- http://roguereview.blogspot.com/ |

yossarian9Posted 7/13/2012 2:06:21 PM | The whole premise of an arkham city is ridiculous but when you just buy the illusion everything in this games rocks...but you have to suspend reality...I mean of course it a reason to cram everyone together, but if that what's ruining this game for you...my friend I'm sorry --- "you mean he a was a tranny?" Koelker12 (Topic Creator) Posted 7/13/2012 2:13:55 PM | I can live with the idea of Arkham City for the sake of the game, but I still couldn't really get on board for the story that revolved around it. I mean, I didn't think it was bad by any means, especially for a videogame, but I heard so much praise about it prior to playing. It's the pacing...or, something...I haven't quite pinned it down yet.
What am I missing? --- http://roguereview.blogspot.com/ |
yossarian9Posted 7/13/2012 2:34:39 PM | I get what you're saying I wish certain villains would have played bigger roles or not been there at all...I don't think you're missing anything, but I would say if you go through again don't let their sense of urgency push you through the story. the side missions 'feel' better if you pick them up as you move through the city towards main objectives --- "you mean he a was a tranny?" yossarian9Posted 7/13/2012 2:44:10 PM | Sorry that whole thing about side missions was for another topic I blended them together in my mind --- "you mean he a was a tranny?" He was more than that "What a big fat tranny?"--Tim from Spaced |

Koelker12 (Topic Creator) Posted 7/13/2012 6:45:10 PM | Wow, I failed to realize that the end of the game took place in the theater at Crime Alley until I was collecting trophies later and stumbled upon the "pay your respects" area.
