They are not even remotely similar

Well to be honest they are nothing alike. Sure they both have loot that comes from chest and sure you level up and equip weapons and armor but other than that they are completely different. KoA is an open world rpg Darksiders 2 is more of an adventure game with rpg elements. As for the story if you enjoyed the first darksiders then I am pretty sure you will enjoy this one.

Similar in that they are combine action and rpgs. But that's about it.

Amalur was built/changed from an MMO that was in development already hence why it plays like it does.

Darksiders is coming from being a Zelda-style action game and adding loot and specialization trees.

Completely different beasts when it comes down to it, but there are similarities if you look at em bare bones, but then if you do that all games are similar so it's not like it would matter then anyways.

If you're wondering about the combat, darksiders 2 has amazing combat while amalur had crap combat.

amalur had some pretty good and deep combat. it just suffered from being a bit too easy and being able to potion spam. they also didnt explain the in depth part of combat. (the strategy guide did though)

You seem to be the only person who disagrees.

Does Darksiders II let you potion spam?

First of all - I loved KoA

They are very similar - in appearance. they both have a very similar art style (cartoonish, big hands and feet on characters) - the open world environments look similar in scope and style (but offer variety)
the "hold down trigger to bring up hot-keyed abilities" mechanic is almost identical.
They both have scaled loot and branching skill trees...

so a lot of similarities (it's called a genre)

but the actual gameplay is very different.
Dungeons still play out like Zelda, the puzzles are easy, you get keys, beat gimmicky bosses
the combat is a bit deeper. Still very basic, but there is much more in terms of combos.

I'm thinking you didn't play it, but there is a lot of things in the game that feel like KoA, itself taking inspiration from countless other in the genre.

TLDR: It is similar. It's 2012, they're all similar, and it's fine.
