Fossil Reviving Question

Is the pokemon's stats determined when you get the fossil or when you actually revive it? I'd like to soft reset until I get a female for breeding Archen. So can I take the fossil to the museum, save, and keep trying for female or do I need to save before I get the item?

Just wondering if it was similar to the egg thing.

Items don't carry any data beyond what the item is. You'll be fine saving just before you give it to the fossil reviving lady.

When you go revive it not when you receive the fossil. So save right before talking to the girl who revives it for you.
