They say practice makes perfect but nobody's perfect then why practice?

Say you obtain a Japanese Ditto. By putting this Jap. Ditto in the daycare with any other pokemon, the chances of hatching a shiny is 4x the regular chance. The new chance is somewhere between 1/1000-1/2000 instead of 1/8192.
I got a shiny Chikorita accidentally this way.

Every time you encounter a Pokémon in the wild or hatch one from an egg it has a 1/8192 chance of being Shiny. The Masuda Method increases your chances to 1/2048.

In order to use the Masuda Method you need to breed two Pokemon from different language versions of the games. Japanase/Chinese Pokémon are the most commonly used as these can be instantly identified from the nicknames unlike German/Spanish/French Pokémon for example.

It won't work if you use two Pokémon from the same region, so you can use Japanese/American but not Japanese/Japanese. The Meister's Magikarp from DPPt also won't work as this was created on your cart.

Another point to notre is that when using the Masuda Method, breeding for natures with an Everstone doesn't work.

Are you sure about the everstone thing? I thought somebody said it works now in Gen V.

koeke14: People have also reported that the chance has been increased to 1/1365 but I haven't seen anyone offering proof that either that or that the everstone now works.

I started a thread yesterday after breeding a shiny Jolly Darumaka via Masuda Method.

I used an everstone and Power Item.
