Clarification Black/White, the 3DS and WPA Settings

#1LegacyBrokenPosted 10/2/2012 2:06:53 PM
Just the other day in anticipation of B2/W2 coming out I recently pulled out my DSlite and picked up Black. When playing for the first time in awhile, i found out that I can't play online being that my latest router uses WPA settings. After some research, I've found out that the Dslite cannot connect using WPA but I have heard conflicting stories about the 3DS and Black and White being able to connect to wifi using WPA security. Before I go out and buy a 3DS, I want to confirm that Black and White can connect using WPA while being played on the 3DS and if I can use WPA how do I go about setting it up so Black and White can use WPA on the 3DS?

Yes you can, I do myself.

And you set it up just the same. You might have to go into the advanced settings to set it up for WPA connections (it is still in the connections settings).

Nintendo 3DS manual, page 73, states...
NOTE: Nintendo DS software only supports WEP security. To connect to the Internet and play Nintendo DS software, please configure your Nintendo DS Settings and then make sure your access point is set up to use WEP security.

Clear as crystal, straight from the 3DS manual itself. (The message also appears on page 187, in French, and on page 301, in Spanish.) The same is true for all other DS software, DSiWare and DSi-enhanced cartridge software included (naturally, DSiWare and DSi-enhanced cartridges are equally considered DS software as, say, Super Mario 64 DS).

Thanks to all who helped. I figured out how to get Black onto WFC with WPA using my 3DS.

3DS DOES support WPA, and so does Black and White. I've used it several times. Not all DS software supports it, 4th gen Pokemon games, for instance, but Black and White do.

B/W1 and 2 aren't Nintendo DS software. They're DSi software.

Semantics, you can play Black and White in a regular DS or DS Lite just fine, you just might miss out on a feature or two. Actually, I don't even know what those features would be. Anyone mind enlightening me? I've probably already heard, I just can't think of anything.
