Which starter has the general advantage/disadvantage?

#1RygonPosted 10/5/2012 5:04:24 PM
For instance, Bulbasaur had a huge advantage early on in the first gen. In the second gen, the grass type had no advantage against a single Johto gym, with critical weaknesses to three of them and not very effective against several of the others. I'm not asking because I want to manipulate it, I'm just curious. What's it like in this gen?

Snivy has the disadvantage. It's grass moves are resisted by and weak to most of the gym leaders beginning at third (Elesa has those emolgas), learns literally no other types of moves by level up except a few normals, and attacking stats aren't decent, but the last is compensated by using coil, at least for attack. While it's still pretty managable, you don't want to solo the game choosing Snivy over the other two.

Meanwhile Tepig only has to deal with slow speed and there's nothing really hindering oshawott. All three, however, are just outclassed by some other pokemon of the same type ingame.

Are you planning on doing a solo?

No?

Then this topic is pointless.

Oh thanks. I wasn't sure if we were allowed to talk without you or not. I'll try to focus my effort into trolling if that's what this board is for.

No, it wasn't trolling.

If you have 5 other pokemon, who are more than enough to cover for the starters' weaknesses, why so worried?

I'll never understand the concern over which Gym Leaders people have an advantage over. It's only eight battles in the game, against which three or so (on average) will be weak to one of your Pokemon's types.

The gym leaders are the major bosses of the games. They are extremely significant fights.
