I'm kinda reminded of System Shock. The first one was great but it didn't sell all that well. But SS2 was so much better, even though the original did a few things to differentiate it from the other FPS of the time.
I know TCon sold well enough, but the *perception* is that it sold poorly for a FPS.
Another recent example is Kilzone 2.

I agree with the Timesplitters. I never heard about the first even after getting Future perfect. --- TKO Tony PSN:FrostedFlakes141

Actually, Killzone is a really good example - the original scored nearly exactly the same as The Conduit. Heck if you average the 3 scores shown here on GameFAQs, they both end up with the same score. O_o --- Wii Code: 8374-5612-2233-9267

But the first game was still good (many claim the best). This topic is about series where the first game was just kinda mediocre, while the second was great. --- Wii Code: 8374-5612-2233-9267

Half-Life, Half-Life 2. Not that the first wasn't great, HL2 just blew everyone's mind. And then it blew it again. And again. --- You win again, gravity! - Zapp Brannigan
