True, but this adds just about as much depth to the game as DK mode did in goldeneye.

It doesn't add to the depth in gameplay, and that's where depth really matters.
This sort of customization is nice... but really its more of a homebrew thing.
Customizable skins would almost make the game TOO feature intensive.

Those statements are entirely true, yes. However, the minute details attached to the little things are expendable and interchangable. Character customization (if I recall correctly) is going to be greatly enhanced in this game, and if that editor is robust enough, gun skins (something barely noticable anyway, since your opponent should be looking at your head or torso) will seem like a trifle.
