I really respect the fact that, unlike other devs who merely whine, "the wii audience failed us, they don't buy hardcore games," HVS are actually admitting that they fell short with the first game, and are focussing on correcting those mistakes.

It's encouraging to hear that they're consciously focussing on better art direction.

I like it better actually, It makes it look more tough and brutal. The old build was very generic and blockish.

If the phase rifle is our sniper it should have a greater length, it should be more bigger, it should look intimidating.

I'll believe it when I see it. Talk is cheap, these guys talked big for the first game and failed miserably, so excuse me if I wait until I play it to make a decision.

In their description of Conduit 2's graphical improvements they say the "portal system" is one of the major upgrades. What do they mean by this, are they talking about the Conduits, or is it a technical term like streaming?

It's a loose technical term usually referring to a mask effect, such as a screen or door, that dynamically displays geometry from another area.
Like the portals in Portal, or the warps in Unreal Tournament 3, or the screens in Mario Kart 64.
