Yeah, but once they used their own servers for japan it's not like they're going to downgrade the online to nintendo's in the west. That would look bad and wouldn't make much sense. Using our own servers and having open chat is something we want, but like I stated before, letting us do that is entirely up to Nintendo.
If it were up to us, the entire online system would be just like steam or xbox live. So really guys, suggesting online features to us at this point is useless because chances are we already thought about it and are trying to get it in. But again, its not up to us at all if it doesn't make it into the final build :)
